Madison - The state medical school disciplined 20 doctors and fined 11 of them up to $4,000 for handing out sick notes to demonstrators at last year's labor protests, newly released records show. The records, requested by the Journal Sentinel last year under the state's open records law, show for the first time the extent of the discipline given to those doctors by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. In several cases, doctors in more senior positions within the school also had to step away from those roles for a period of four months over one...

Doctors who handed out sick notes to protesters while on the corner of Mifflin and Hamilton streets last year claim protestors received more thorough examinations on the street in public than they would have at an office visit. This revelation was discoverd in an examination of documents obtained by the MacIver News Service through an open records request. The Medical Examining Board issued reprimands to seven doctors in October, who had given hundreds of sick notes to protesters last February so they wouldn’t get in trouble for skipping work. The MacIver News Service was the first to report on the...

Seven doctors who wrote sick notes for protesters at the state Capitol in February received reprimands Wednesday by the state Medical Examining Board. Two other doctors got administrative warnings, which aren't considered disciplinary action as the reprimands are. The medical board voted 6-3 to approve the reprimands for the six doctors from UW-Madison. The board voted 6-4 to reprimand the other doctor, from Dean Clinic. A board member from the university's doctor group abstained from the first vote. Two of the board members who voted no said they weren't allowed to talk publicly about why. The reprimands go on the...

Madison teachers who missed school last month to attend protests and turned in fraudulent doctor's notes have been given until April 15 to rescind those notes, officials said Thursday. The district received more than 1,000 notes from teachers, human resources director Bob Nadler said. A couple hundred of those were ruled fraudulent because they appeared to be written by doctors at the Capitol protests against Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to limit collective bargaining. Teachers who don't rescind fraudulent notes could receive a disciplinary letter of suspension, the most serious form of discipline aside from termination, Nadler said. The suspension would...

The Department of Regulation and Licensing (DRL) received numerous contacts from individuals expressing concern about physicians who were allegedly writing medical excuses for individuals attending rallies at the Capitol last month. DRL staff reviewed all of the correspondence and determined that 64 individuals who contacted the department had specific information that would constitute a complaint. Based on the information provided by those 64 individuals, DRL identified 11 people who have been asked to provide information to the department about their activities at the Capitol. This group includes nine licensed physicians and two unlicensed individuals. The 11 individuals have been requested...

Senator Galloway Statement on Fraudulent Sick Notes Senator Pam Galloway (R‐Wausau), released the following statement today: “Over the weekend, various news outlets have reported that some physicians were handing out medical excuse notes to protestors attending rallies at the State Capitol. There is video footage of this including notes signed by a physician who is employed as an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have no issue with public employees who went in to see their physicians and obtained a note after being examined. However, I am outraged that doctors allegedly stood on street corners in downtown Madison...

What is occurring in Madison, Wisconsin has become a microcosm of what is happening across America: conservative care givers are being blocked by progressive liberal statists. In Wisconsin, the elected Governor and conservative legislature are trying to institute rational, humane treatment to a sick patient, the state of Wisconsin’s failed economy. Unfortunately, progressive liberal statists and unions, as self-appointed “family members” of the patient, have decided to withhold treatment by NOT allowing the caregivers in the room and by trying to hide the patient in another state. The progressive liberal statists and unions have taken the situation to a fraudulent...
