Lauren Liggett, a 22-year-old college student from Carthage, Mo., found herself hooked the moment she saw the pilot episode of the TLC reality show "Extreme Couponing" in December. She began scouring the Internet for couponing websites, bought copies of the Sunday newspaper for the circulars, and headed to the grocery store to shop for her family -- her mom, Joyce, a realtor, and her dad, Larry, a retired IBM engineer who works part-time as a car salesman. The Liggetts are not struggling financially -- they have a low-six-figure income -- but since Lauren lives at home and her parents are...

Extreme couponing appears to be a growing trend and in the current state of our nation's economy, who can blame coupon lovers for wanting to save money? Apparently WalMart can. A Boise, Idaho woman claims she has been banned for life from the conglomerate retail chain, WalMart. It wasn't just one store that barred her from shopping there, but every store in the United States. The reason it happened was an argument over coupons. April Cuevas, who has taken up the appropriately-titled hobby of "extreme couponing" in order to save money, stated that she was informed WalMart's policy known as...
  • A backlash to 'Extreme Couponing'?

You may find the obsessive shoppers in "Extreme Couponing" entertaining, if over-the-top, but it appears they've inspired so many wannabes that retailers are setting new limits on coupon use. ...   The show has sparked some illegal activity, according to Lesley Mitchell, who described the backlash in The Salt Lake Tribune: "Managers at stores where I shop think the 'Extreme Couponing' show has increased the instances of coupon fraud, including photocopying coupons."  Other people have gotten way too clever with coupon tricks, stripping the entire supply of a discounted product from store shelves. ...Among the changes:  Rite Aid A...

The above article describes changes that could be coming to coupons / couponing. I've not read anywhere else but at source link about Red Plum, Smart Source and P&G suing eBay or any of the coupon clipping services. Just wanted to give a heads up as stores are changing policy due to the extreme couponing show. And getting coupons from sources other than your local Sunday paper may be temporarily delayed.
  • The Coupon Whisperer: "Extreme Couponing"---Episodes 1 & 2

The first two episodes of "Extreme Couponing" aired this evening on TLC. Many similarities with the original show which aired in December although I noticed some new bits of interesting information. Specifically "money maker" deals or "making money" was alluded to. For those of you new to couponing that means when you have a coupon so good that it is worth more than the product you are buying. The amount of "overage" aka "moneymaker" aka "mm" is applied toward your other products. That is why you saw the people on today's show able to buy meat, milk, etc. and...
  • WaPo TV Reviewer Grouses About New Show Chronicling 'Selfish' Coupon-clipping Moms

On the surface, TLC's "Extreme Couponing" -- premiering tonight at 9:30 p.m. EDT -- may look to you and me like an innocently voyeuristic look into the lives of fellow Americans who take penny-pinching to the extreme, saving at times hundreds of dollars on grocery store runs. But that's why we're not TV critics for a liberal metropolitan newspaper. Washington Post's Hank Stuever worked in a healthy share of left-wing grousing about capitalism and insisted that the coupon-clippers highlighted by the program were insufferably selfish souls. "Little piggies go to market, and clean up on Aisle 5," the article's online...

Set your DVRs for 9 PM EDT next Wednesday, April 6. That is when the new TLC series, "Extreme Couponing," kicks off. They had it as a special last December and the response was so great that it has been turned into a series. Judging from the video on the HOME PAGE of this series, it looks like they have new couponeers featured. I don't know if they will stick to the same group each week or if new couponeers will be featured each week. If the latter, I wonder if TLC would ever get around to contacting The...
