The U.S. came within seconds of launching a nuclear strike on Russia ,unleashing WW3 during the coldest period of the Cold War, according to secret documents revealed by a historian. Washington and Russia came extremely close to a massive nuclear war because of a faulty 46-cent component that caused a computer glitch, according to the documents. The secret documents were revealed and detailed in a book by American author Eric Schlosser titled Command and Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety. The documents include over 1,000 accidents with nuclear weapons that occurred due to the negligence...

Since he wrote "Fast Food Nation" more than a decade ago, muckraking author Eric Schlosser has noticed a sympathy gap in the food movement that he helped foster. Some foodies seem to care more about the treatment of the animals they eat than the workers who prepare and serve them. "It's not all foodies by any means," Schlosser said. "But the food movement can get sidetracked into wealthy, upper-middle-class people caring about food as status, caring about food as pleasure. I'm a huge supporter of animal welfare, but the compassion for the abuse of animals is so much more excessive,...
  • America Needs A New New Deal (Red Katrina on WSJ?)

WSJ ^ | 09/27/08 | KATRINA VANDEN HEUVEL and ERIC SCHLOSSER
America Needs A New New Deal By KATRINA VANDEN HEUVEL and ERIC SCHLOSSER The Bush administration has proposed the most expensive government spending plan in American history, allocating as much as $700 billion to a Wall Street bailout. The proposal was attacked by members of both parties, who immediately began negotiations to find an alternative. The Bush plan was not only a political blunder; it was also a complete repudiation of the administration's own economic policies. It could not be justified by any of the core beliefs governing free enterprise and the free market. As with the decision to invade...
  • Question, Freepers, on Fast Food Nation author Eric Schlosser

Freepers, Like many universities, my school is REQUIRING incoming freshmen during "orientation" (read: "indoctrination") to read Eric Schlosser's book Fast Food Nation. Of course, the liberal newspaper reviews are all positive, and the interviews fawning. Are any of you aware of any conservative sources that have looked at Schlosser or investigated him? This is a man who said he was "fascinated" by the links between Walt Disney and "Nazi war criminals," meaning Werner von Braun (apparently to Schlosser anyone who fired a weapon on behalf of Germany is a "war criminal"). Thanks for the help.
