Because of her strong support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), a Catholic, will be presented with the 21st Annual International Role Model Award by the Equality Forum, next week in Philadelphia while the Democratic National Convention is underway. “We are thrilled to present Leader Pelosi with this prestigious award for her long-standing support and her leadership in advancing LGBT civil rights,” said Malcolm Lazin, the founder and executive director of the Equality Forum. …

Wishing all of you a blessed and reverent Holy Week! As is well known, the week leading up to Easter is the most sacred part of the calendar for Christians. While different denominations celebrate the holiday at different times, in 2006 many Christians, including Catholics, began Holy Week this past Sunday. It is supposed to be a time of repentance, prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and meditating upon the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
