The numbers: The number of Americans who applied for unemployment benefits in mid-September fell to a fresh 49-year low, more proof that a growing labor shortage and surging economy have given workers greater job security. Initial jobless claims, a rough proxy for layoffs, fell by 3,000 to 201,000 in the seven days ended Sept. 15. That’s below the 208,000 MarketWatch forecast and marks the lowest level since Nov. 12, 1969.

For example, Dr Eugenie Scott of the staunchly anticreationist National Center for Science Education (NCSE) revealed their agenda when she said: “ … I would describe myself as a humanist or a nontheist. I have found that the most effective allies for evolution are people of the faith community. One clergyman with a backward collar is worth two biologists at a school board meeting any day! … What we [such clergy and atheists] have in common is that we want to see evolution taught in the public schools … .”4

FORWARD OPERATING BASE LOYALTY, Iraq, Feb. 22, 2007 — Concrete barriers are going up in the eastern Baghdad's Rusafa security district, aimed at providing enhanced security to the Al Shurja market place. As part of Operation Fardh Al-Qanoon, elements of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, started placing concrete barriers this week. Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment emplaced more than 130 concrete barriers at the market place, Feb. 16. "The ultimate success of this depends on the Iraqi security forces, on how they operate and implement the market checkpoints," Maj. Matthew R. Sampson, an engineer...

SPACE CENTER, Houston - Employing the kind of NASA ingenuity seen during Apollo 13, an astronaut prepped for an emergency repair job on Discovery's exterior Wednesday with forceps, scissors and a hacksaw fashioned out of a blade and a little duct tape. Stephen Robinson's mission was to remove two short pieces of filler material that were sticking out of the shuttle's belly. NASA feared the material could lead to a repeat of the 2003 Columbia tragedy during Discovery's re-entry next week. Astronauts have never ventured beneath an orbiting shuttle before, and have never attempted repairs to the fragile thermal skin...

"The Journey Continues--Week 2" Posted by Doc Farmer Wednesday, August 20, 2003 As most of you know, I lost my job in Doha, Qatar. It’s been two weeks now, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many of you who sent me e-mail messages of encouragement. They were greatly appreciated. What’s it like, being unemployed? Most of us have experienced it at least once in our careers, but it’s rare that we really examine it or talk about it. But there are things that I need to really get off my chest. Partly, this is a simple...
