Jane Austen, who died at 41 years of age on the 18th of July, 1817, might be one of the most conservative writers ever. "Sense and Sensibility" (published in 1811) is set in the 1790's in southern England, while the Reign Of Terror gripped France and while Vermont, Kentucky, and Tennessee became states in America. A quote: “I wish, as well as everybody else, to be perfectly happy; but, like everybody else, it must be in my own way.” (Sense And Sensibility) “I hate to hear you talk about all women as if they were fine ladies instead of rational...

House Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) introduced a resolution on Wednesday to recognize U.S. Olympic and college swimmer Emma Weyant as the real 1st place winner of the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming championship because transgender "female" Lia Thomas, a biological male, was awarded the winning medal. Whereas Emma Weyant’s first-place medal was stolen from her by a man competing in women’s swimming: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives recognizes and honors Emma Weyant as the rightful winner of the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s 500-Yard Freestyle," reads the resolution introduced by Rep. Boebert. ... At...

Emma Bonino not only is responsible for millions of abortions but she supports same-sex 'marriage,' transgenderism, and sex education. Bonino, a former abortionist once praised by Pope Francis as “a great Italian,” will appear in a Catholic church to present the pro-migrant campaign “ERO STRANIERO: La humanità che fa bene” (“I was a stranger: Humanity that does good”) As an abortion rights activist and an abortionist herself, Bonino is directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of approximately six million Italian babies between 1968 and today. Bonino’s appearance in the Church of San Defendente, Ronco di Cassato, on July 26...

Parkland student Emma González...and her fellow students at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School “ostracized” fellow student Nikolas Cruz. Said González when speaking in Washington at the anti-gun “March for Our Lives”: “Since he was in middle school, it was no surprise to anyone who knew him, that he was the shooter. Those talking about how we should have not ostracized him? You didn’t know this kid! OK? We did!” Which is to say, González just made a startling admission. Parkland students bullied Nikolas Cruz. It may well be that González is right — the rest of us didn’t know...

Euthanasia has come to Italy, and both jubilant right-to-die activists and heartbroken Catholics are giving Pope Francis part of the credit. Moreover, the law does not provide doctors the right to refuse participation via conscientious objection. Last Thursday the Italian government passed a law allowing adults to determine their end-of-life care, including the circumstances in which they can refuse treatment. Italians will now be able to write “living wills” in which they can refuse not only medical treatment, but also hydration and nutrition. According to Catholic doctrine, the withdrawal of nutrition and hydration is passive euthanasia. The Italian end-of-life bill...

Emma Watson is taking the fight for feminism to the frontlines, delivering a powerful message to the men of the world to take up the struggle for gender equality. Watson, who was appointed to the role of the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador earlier this year, delivered a speech on the floor of the UN to launch the new HeForShe initiative, which advocates for total equality without the use of negative rhetoric and for getting men to join the political and social battle. "We want to end gender inequality," Watson told the assembly. "And to do this, we need everyone involved…...

Imagine a safe, clean nuclear reactor that used a fuel that was hugely abundant, produced only minute quantities of radioactive waste and was almost impossible to adapt to make weapons. It sounds too good to be true, but this isn’t science fiction. This is what lies in store if we harness the power of a silvery metal found in river sands, soil and granite rock the world over: thorium. One ton of thorium can produce as much energy as 200 tons of uranium, or 3.5 million tons of coal, and the thorium deposits that have already been identified would meet...

I recently had the misfortune to observe some very bad psychological child abuse that I was powerless to stop. Calling the police would have done no good because the abuse was on a television show, the July 23rd episode of ABC's All My Children. Several adults were ganging up on a little girl, Emma Lavery, trying to get her to stop saying she had seen one of them, Kendall Slater, kill someone by mistake. Worse than that they were attempting to coerce her into saying that she had seen her mother, Annie, commit the murder instead. One would talk to...

A late winter storm raged across much of western Europe overnight Friday and through much of Saturday, with winds measuring over 220 kilometres per hour in places, leaving several dead, uprooting trees, cutting off electricity and causing a train crash. In Germany, a high-speed ICE train crashed before dawn Saturday into a tree that fell on a track during a storm raging across Europe, and at least two motorists were killed in other storm-related accidents. The German railways said the engine driver was injured in the collision at Bruehl near Bonn, but the high-speed inter-city express train, bound for Vienna,...

Like the toughest kid in school or the paroled felon at the end of the bar, we don't want any trouble from TV's all-time baddest babes. Still, we're curious. And we can't keep our eyes off them as they fight crime, the supernatural--and one another! How can legs so long and smooth kick so high? How do such pretty hands make such hard fists? And talk about accessorizing! Who knew bracelets could stop bullets? But TV's toughest chicks aren't just about beauty and brawn. The ones you really need to watch out for have big brains beneath that big hair....

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - On the surface, Rob Reiner's "Alex & Emma" looks to have the right stuff to return the filmmaker to firmer commercial footing after 1999's "The Story of Us." Pairing two bankable actors as likable Kate Hudson and Luke Wilson in a romantic comedy would seem like a recipe for success, but the end result proves to be a dull, draggy disappointment. Loosely based on "The Gambler," an autobiographical short story by Fyodor Dostoevsky about a debt-ridden, gambling-addicted author who must deliver a new book within 30 days or forfeit the rights to all of his...
