Britain’s ageing population poses a long-term threat to the economy and will affect interest rates for decades to come, Andrew Bailey has said. The Governor of the Bank of England identified changing demographics as one of two biggest problems facing the UK and similar countries in the years ahead, along with stagnant productivity since the financial crisis. He suggested that these challenges would have more of an impact in the long run than the war in Ukraine and the Covid crisis, which have combined to drive inflation to its highest level in decades. Setting out the challenge from these two...

When Ronald Reagan ran for a second term in 1984, he was 73 years old—and, at that time, the oldest presidential candidate in U.S. history. Biden eclipsed that record in 2020, turning 78 just two weeks after the general election. And now he's done it again with the announcement of his bid for a second term. Already the oldest president in U.S. history, Biden would, if reelected, be 82 on Inauguration Day and 86 by the time he leaves office. While Biden's age will no doubt be a factor in the 2024 presidential campaign, history demonstrates that older presidents like...

An international team has examined the associations of changes in body weight and waist circumference with all-cause and cause-specific mortality. In the paper, the team highlights the startling connection between weight loss and increased risk of death. The researchers used data from a past study looking at aspirin use in 16,703 Australian participants aged 70 and above. They focused on weight recordings, waist circumference measurements and mortality information over time. The cohort consisted of 7,510 men and 9,193 women. All the individuals were without evident cardiovascular disease, dementia, physical disability, or life-limiting chronic illnesses. Using men with stable weight as...

Authored by Michael Snyder via The End of The American Dream blog,The kids are not okay, and it is time for us to face the truth. As long as I have been writing, surveys have shown that the mental health of our young people has been steadily getting worse. But now we are learning that things really took an enormous turn for the worse during the pandemic. As you will see below, one expert is warning that the number of kids that are dealing with mental health issues “has increased exponentially since the pandemic”. The facts that I am about...

CDC is investigating a potential link between COVID mRNA injections and ischemic strokes

Pfizer's bivalent Covid booster could increase the risk of a stroke in recipients over age 65, officials report. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials cited vaccine safety database data that showed an increased risk of ischemic stroke in the elderly within three weeks of getting the shot. An ischemic stroke, also known as brain ischemia, is caused by blockages in arteries that carry blood to the brain. The safety concern requires more investigation and 'the totality of the data currently suggests that it is very unlikely that the signal … represents a true clinical risk', CDC wrote in...

Background Monitoring safety outcomes following COVID-19 vaccination is critical for understanding vaccine safety especially when used in key populations such as elderly persons age 65 years and older who can benefit greatly from vaccination. We present new findings from a nationally representative early warning system that may expand the safety knowledge base to further public trust and inform decision making on vaccine safety by government agencies, healthcare providers, interested stakeholders, and the public. Methods We evaluated 14 outcomes of interest following COVID-19 vaccination using the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) data covering 30,712,101 elderly persons. The CMS...

The number of seniors visiting emergency rooms in California for cannabis-related issues is growing, according to new research. From 2005 to 2019, the state’s emergency departments saw a 1,808 percent relative increase in the rate of cannabis-related trips among those aged 65 and older. Cannabis is currently legal for both medicinal and recreational use in California. The state became the first in the country to legalize medical marijuana in 1996, while the substance was not approved for recreational use there until November 2016. The study found that cannabis-related emergency department visits in California rose sharply among seniors from 2013 to...

SINGAPORE: President Halimah Yacob on Monday (Dec 19) suggested that rapists aged 50 or older should not be spared caning, in a Facebook post expressing her dismay at recent cases of children being raped in their own homes. Under Singapore's Penal Code, a convicted rapist can be jailed up to 20 years and fined or caned. Those 50 years old and above cannot be sentenced to caning, but can be imprisoned longer in lieu of corporal punishment.

Lynne Ingersoll and her cat, Jesse, spent a quiet Thanksgiving Day together in her small bungalow in Blue Island, Ill. A retired librarian, Ms. Ingersoll never married or had children. At 77, she has outlived her parents, three partners, her two closest friends, five dogs and eight cats. When her sister died three years ago, Ms. Ingersoll joined the ranks of older Americans considered “kinless”: without partners or spouses, children or siblings. Covid-19 has largely suspended her occasional get-togethers with friends, too. Now, she said, “my social life consists of doctors and store clerks — that’s a joke, but it’s...

'With many older people choosing to live in suburban areas or rural areas, some will benefit more...' (Headline USA) On Thursday, the U.S. government is set to announce how big a percentage increase Social Security beneficiaries will see in monthly payments this upcoming year. Some estimates say the boost for more than 65 million Social Security beneficiaries may be as big as 9%. It’s virtually certain to be the largest raise in four decades and will add more strain on the welfare program’s trust fund, which is expected to expire within the next decade, even as younger taxpayers continue to...

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis could become the first degenerative disease to be treated through the science of aging. It was known that this disease is associated with the aging process, but its molecular causes were unknown. The Telomeres and Telomerase Group has been working for years to unravel them. In their findings, they have narrowed down exactly which cells give rise to fibrosis when they undergo alterations due to the aging process: alveolar type II pneumocytes, the cells responsible for regenerating lung tissue. "The relevance of this finding is that it indicates which cells in particular should be targeted in any...

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2 causes severe pathophysiology in vulnerable older populations and appears to be highly pathogenic and more transmissible than SARS-CoV or MERS-CoV [1, 2]. The spike (S) protein appears to be a major pathogenic factor that contributes to the unique pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2. Although the S protein is a surface transmembrane type 1 glycoprotein, it has been predicted to be translocated into the nucleus due to the novel nuclear localization signal (NLS) “PRRARSV”, which is absent from the S protein of other coronaviruses. Indeed, S proteins translocate into the nucleus in SARS-CoV-2-infected cells. To our...

When federal officials first identified the potential adverse events they said it could be because the vaccine was "given to many high-risk individuals." Researchers at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are reportedly planning on publishing a study on four potential adverse effects in elderly people who received the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. "The medical record review and statistical analyses have recently been completed, and the overall study results are currently under internal review at FDA," an agency spokesperson told The Epoch Times via email on Friday. "Release of the study findings is expected later this fall." The FDA in 2021...

A Florida woman named Tupac Amaru Shakur was arrested for allegedly attacking an elderly man with a baseball bat while he sat on a bench outside of a hospital in her home state. The 34-year-old woman, who shares the exact same name with the iconic California rapper, appeared before a Miami-Dade County judge on Wednesday, WPLG reported — exactly 26 years after the artist was fatally shot in Las Vegas in 1996. Shakur — the accused criminal — allegedly hit the man “several times” with the bat outside of Hialeah Hospital around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, according to an...

(What's a better way to collapse a medical system than with incurable brain disease.) Further unification of spike protein microvascular disease and tauopathy: TLR-2. I believe I can now fully explain why Tauopathies are occurring in association with SARS-CoV-2 and its Spike Protein. Radiation PERMANENTLY alters NF-kB expression and reprograms endothelial cells resulting in vascular disease. The very same activation also increases the effects of ALL risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s Disease. Of course, SARS-CoV-2 is NOT radiation. However the Spike Protein MIMICKS THE EFFECTS OF RADIATION EXACTLY including activation of NF-kB via TLR-2. This also explains why the elderly...
