Democrats have an enormous dilemma if Kamala Harris loses
Fox News ^ | November 2, 2024 | Mark Halperin

Changing leaves, the World Series, Halloween, the New York City Marathon. Then, in a blink, Election Day. The classic quadrennial late-fall cycle in America.

Now it’s the final stretch, the final sprint. The race currently seems so tight, it is impossible to predict with confidence who will win, or what ultimately will be the deciding factors for the voters. Yet in a few short days, we will likely know the answer. Then Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah , Christmas, New Year’s, and at last, Inauguration Day. On January 20, 2025, the next POTUS will take office. Former President Donald Trump may return to the West Wing, or we may greet President Kamala Harris as Number 47.

Harris, in her brief race to the White House, has achieved many impressive feats. In a blast of summer joy, she energized the Democratic Party. She held court over thousands of citizens in jam-packed rallies around the country. She looked both confident and glam at the debate against Trump. She raised over a billion dollars in support, grandly outpacing Trump’s own imposing fundraising effort. Millions of Americans will enthusiastically cast their ballot for the vice president.

If Harris wins, there would be celebration in the blue streets, excitement about the historic first female American president, and hope that Harris would bring to the Oval Office a refreshing mix of energy, leadership, unity and smart new ideas.

There would, of course, be those who would worry about her habit of creating toxic workplaces for notoriously discontented staffers; her long-running failure to stem the influx of migrants at the southern border; her largely unpopular stance on transgender issues, and the uncertainty still surrounding many of her key positions and international steel.

Wasn’t the collapse of the Democrat party predicted here after Trump won in 2016?

If Kamala loses, the left will blame us. Period.

They have no self-awareness. They live in a different universe, incapable of doing self-reflection.

Article goes on and on about if she wins before finally getting to the if she loses, with no pay off at the end.

A waste of time.

Democrats have an enormous dilemma if Kamala Harris loses

No, they don't. This is ridiculous. Harris is manifestly unpopular and, most importantly, she never won a single vote. She was parachuted in to the top of the ticket with a hundred days left in the race.

There are A LOT of Democrat politicians who would be happy to see her lose and end her political career knowing that 2028 will be a clean slate for both parties.

This adds to my optimism for Trump. Democrats know that he's not going to be Hitler. He'll be a lame duck. Maybe JD Vance will be the frontrunner in 2028. Who knows? He might suck as VP. We don't know. One thing we do know is that the field will be full in 2028 with a dozen strong Republicans running under the MAGA banner.

And the Democrats' field will be full as well. If Harris loses (and she should), it'll be a golden opportunity for the Dems to ditch the psychotic woke left and return to being a working-class blue collar party, maybe run some white male governors in the Bill Clinton mold.

Point is, there's A LOT of Dems who aren't going to pull out the stops for Harris hoping that she'll lose, disappear, and open up the field.

It won't happen. More likely we will see somebody like Gavin Newsom running to the center. He's slick enough to do it. And he did a great job cleaning up S.F. when his boss (Xi Jinping) came in town.

And if she wins the gop will say we made a mistake by not nominating Haley who honestly is the same as Harris except she doesn’t cackle

I was going to say — FFS, no matter what happens life would go on. If they think that if they lost we’d round them up into cattle cars then they have better drugs than anyone I know. My grandparents had to deal with ***ACTUAL*** Nazis who invaded their countries and threw them out of their homes. Sometimes I wish I could send some of these hyperventilating libs to the real Nazi Germany — not for long, maybe a week — just to set them straight on the difference between **real** Nazis and the “Nazis” in the addled brains of today’s white libs.

Halperin’s essay reflects the reality that there no longer exists a consensus of commonly held decent values among Americans that are the core of true unity and amity. Whatever side loses will not be at peace. The hate will be palpable and severe.

No. We'll say we made the mistake in not nominating DeSantis.

The weirdest thing about this election is: Had the Democrats gone with anyone other than Kamala Harris, they'd be beating Trump in a landslide. And had the GOP gone with anyone other than Donald Trump, they'd be beating Kamala Harris in a landslide.

I don’t know about that last part. I think Donald Trump’s “no bullshit, not fvking around” attitude has a lot to do with his success. I’d hate to think of how we’d do against her with one of our typical milquetoast “walk on eggshells” ‘Pubs.

The first person to be placed in the dunking machine would be … not Kamala Harris, but President Joe Biden. For staying in the race too long, only leaving when it was indefensible for him to continue after his disastrous June debate. For running for president back in 2020, when it was clear to some that his mental acuity was already in decline, and that the prospect of a long-term presidential career was untenable. For blocking other viable Democrats from running, curbing the growth and potential of his party’s future leadership. For picking Harris as his running mate for crass demographic reasons, and for covering up unsavory truths about his family, especially his son, Hunter. For choosing self-interest and vanity over country, putting an egotistical desire to remain in power over the needs of the party and the nation.
