Pratt & Whitney, was awarded a contract for $46 million to provide F100-PW-229 Enhanced Engine Package (EEP) engines to power the Egyptian Air Force's new fleet of 20 F-16 aircraft. This contract covers engines to support the initial aircraft production for the Egyptian Air Force's F-16 block 52 aircraft purchase. The F100-PW-229 EEP is the latest evolution of Pratt & Whitney’s F100 family. Pratt & Whitney plans to begin deliveries of F100-PW-229 EEP engines in 2011.

Egypt's Defense Ministry has approved plans to expand the production of joint weapons and aerospace projects with Beijing. They said both countries were discussing a draft agreement in which they would also jointly market combat platforms and weapons to Arab and African militaries. "Over the next few months, we will witness an announcement of new Egyptian-Chinese combat production that stems from joint cooperation," said Hamdi Waheiba, chairman of Egypt's Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI). Lockheed Martin has been awarded an initial $213 million by the US government for the production of 20 new Advanced Block 52 F-16 aircraft for Egypt. According to a news release by the Lockheed Martin, the new aircraft order includes 16 F-16Cs and 4 F-16Ds, and will supplement the Egyptian Air Force's (EAF) existing fleet of F-16s and contribute to the modernisation of the EAF. US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin is to sell 24 F-16 jet fighters to Egypt in a 3.2 billion dollar deal, a company spokesman said Tuesday. "We understand that the governements of the United States and Egypt have reached an agreement over a contract for military sale to provide 24 F-16s to Egypt," Lockheed spokesman Joe Stout told AFP.
