President Obama’s proposed economic stimulus plan, now past the House and on the way to the Senate, has a little bit of everything. The stimulative effect of some of the provisions, middle-class tax cuts for example, are easy to understand. Other provisions, such as additional money for the National Endowment for the Arts, are a hard sell for stimulating the economy. Then there is the proposal that not only does not stimulate the economy but is, arguably, counterproductive. The $825 billion plan includes $87 billion, over 10 percent, to help states with Medicaid coverage. And part of that money is...

As Chuck Colson shared yesterday on BreakPoint, these are troubling times for human dignity and the pro-life movement. President-elect Obama has promised to pass the Freedom of Choice Act, which would eliminate every common-sense restriction passed on abortion at the state level and federal level in the past 20 years. The new administration is also encouraging embryonic stem cell research. And nowadays, 90 percent of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome prior to birth are aborted. In times when many evangelicals are tempted to retreat from the front lines of the battle for human dignity, we need some modern-day heroes for...

To paraphrase the late conservative intellectual Richard Weaver, election results have consequences. The consequences of the off-year 2001 elections will not be limited to the manner in which the victors govern; they will have a national impact as future pretenders to public office ponder their meaning and plan campaigns accordingly. Republicans are likely to draw all the wrong lessons from November 6 and do so at their peril. To review, the GOP lost the governorship in both Virginia and New Jersey while retaining the mayor's office in New York City (the Houston mayoral race will be decided in a runoff)....

Vote Earley Bush, Giuliani, and Bishop Loverde pitch in. By John J. Miller & Ramesh Ponnuru November 5, 2001 11:00 a.m. Behind in the polls and badly outspent by his opponent, Virginia's GOP candidate for governor brought America's two most popular politicians and an important religious leader into his campaign over the weekend. Mark Earley's campaign mailed a brochure displaying a big picture of Earley walking half a step behind President Bush on what appears to be a tarmac. Inside, there's a quote from Bush: "I appreciate his strong stance on holding the line on taxes and cutting the car ...

This is to all citizens of Southern Virginia. Polls show a close race tomorrow for the govenor's race. Warner is getting large amounts of votes from Norhtern Virginia. Earley will loose if voter turn out is low in Southern Virginia, as in every place south of Richmond. So, every one who is a Republican in this area must get out and vote, it is vitle that you go and vote and that you take van fulls and bus loads of people with you to polling places. The recent polls give Warner a lead based on moderate turnout in S. Virginia ...
