It was a magnificent fall day on the Northern California Coast this afternoon. I decided to return to the Pescadero Marsh, 30 years after my first visit and the worst case of poison oak of my life. It took cortisone shots to stop it from spreading through my circulatory system. Back then, I didn't know how to identify the poison oak plant, but I sure do now. Today, a couple of the trails at the marsh were overgrown with poison oak, so turned around and didn't even try to get through or bypass. It was a short hike today, less...

Not sure but this may be my first "vanity" thread since joining in 1998. In any case, I know there's folks on here who are deeply involved in photography and know lots about camera's and digital camera's -- something of which I know about zero. I'm taking the better half on her dream vacation this summer to Alaska for her birthday. We have a small 12mp digital pocket camera, but are thinking we'd really need something better (better zoom, image stabilization for example) for some nice nature pic's. I've been reading up on different camera's from SLR to DSLR and...

KUWAIT: After the ban three ministries placed on photography, most Kuwaiti youth are a bit confused about what to do with their cameras if they can't use them in public and why such laws were implemented in the first place. The Ministry of Information, Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Finance recently came to the conclusion that photography should be used for journalism purposes only. This has resulted in the ban of Digital Single Lens Reflex Cameras (DSLRs) in public, on the streets and in malls . What most Kuwaiti photographers have come to wonder is how such a...

I about to purchase a digital SLR camera, and I was hoping to get some input from fellow Freepers. I've heard that Nikon makes the best DSLR's, but I can't really decide between the D50 and the D70s. They seem pretty similar from what I've read, but there is a $450 price difference.(I've also looked into the Canon Rebel, but I didn't like the body of the camera.) The price is important to me, but since I plan on owning this camera for years, it is not my biggest priority. I am more concerned with great shots, fast response, and...
