I will say, opposition to voter ID laws is strange. If the problem is that not everyone can afford an ID or has easy access to the DMV, states should work to ameliorate those issues. Free IDs for those who can’t afford one, full online registration. I say this because too many illegals end up voting in our elections. No debate on Election Security should go forward without first agreeing that Voter ID (Identification) must play a very strong part in any final agreement. Without Voter ID, it is all so meaningless! The democrats are getting ready for 2020 and...
  • British motorists could be stripped of licenses under new EU laws

British motorists caught speeding or committing other motoring offenses in Europe will face fines and could even lose their licences under new EU laws. At present, motorists using their own vehicles abroad avoid punishment if they are caught by speed cameras. They only face fines if they are stopped by a police officer at a roadside. The European Parliament is on Wednesday expected to vote in favor of new measures that will give police forces the power to issue fines across Europe and to pursue offenders in courts abroad. […] Next year the European Commission will also, under the same...

A judge cleared the way Thursday for thousands of young immigrants in Arizona who are protected from deportation under an Obama administration policy to get driver’s licenses. The preliminary injunction issued by U.S. District Judge David Campbell bars the state from enforcing Gov. Jan Brewer’s policy of denying the licenses to about 20,000 immigrants. The injunction that takes effect on Monday was a formality that carries out instructions issued in July by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. …

The Washington DC city council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a bill that would allow as many as 15,000 illegal aliens currently living in the nation’s capital to obtain a driver's license. The council’s Transportation Committee initially voted to give illegal aliens licenses that would be identical to the licenses that the city issues to U.S. citizens and legal immigrants. The committee said it intended to do so on the grounds that “marked” licenses would “unintentionally reveal the immigration status of all District residents.” However, the federal REAL ID Act of 2005 requires states to obtain “evidence of lawful...
  • No full driving license until 19: Ministers’ plan to slash deaths caused by young motorists (UK)

The driving age could be raised to 18 in an attempt to slash the death toll on our roads. And young people could be forced to wait until they are 19 before they qualify for a full license under radical plans being considered by ministers. Currently, they can be driving independently at 17. The plans could also see all motorists aged under 30 banned from giving their friends a lift or driving at night for 12 months after they pass their test. The proposals, prepared for the Department for Transport, would also see new motorists face a lower drink-drive limit...
  • Hawaii can’t fit woman’s last name on license

A Hawaii woman’s last name is a real mouthful, containing 36 letters and 19 syllables in all. And it’s so long that she couldn’t get a driver’s license with her correct name.

The documents only have room for 35 characters, so Hawaii County instead issued her driver’s license and her state ID with the last letter of her name chopped off. And it omitted her first name.

  • State Sued for “Unconstitutionally” Denying Illegal Alien License

Emboldened by President Obama’s amnesty venture and no doubt the nation’s robust open borders movement, an illegal immigrant is suing the state she lives in for “unconstitutionally” denying her a driver’s license. This seems to indicate that a new, bolder, more confident and demanding class of illegal alien has surfaced in the United States. Not that we haven’t seen illegal immigrants sue various U.S. agencies—at the federal, state, county and city level—over the years for violations of “constitutional rights,” but this is really brazen. The story comes out of Nebraska, where a 24-year-old illegal alien insists she has the right,...

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission has cracked down on drivers smiling in their driver’s license photos because their smiles could interfere with new facial recognition software. New Jersey resident Velvet McNeil told the Philadelphia Inquirer Thursday that when she went to get her license at her local New Jersey motor vehicle center, she was told she could not smile for her photo. Shocked, McNeil said she walked out of the center. …
