British motorists caught speeding or committing other motoring offenses in Europe will face fines and could even lose their licences under new EU laws.

At present, motorists using their own vehicles abroad avoid punishment if they are caught by speed cameras. They only face fines if they are stopped by a police officer at a roadside.

The European Parliament is on Wednesday expected to vote in favor of new measures that will give police forces the power to issue fines across Europe and to pursue offenders in courts abroad. […]

Next year the European Commission will also, under the same legislation, review whether it should introduce “harmonization of penalty points”, under which motorists who commit motoring offenses abroad will get points on their licenses. Robert Goodwill, the roads minister, has said that the plans for transferring penalty points are “inappropriate” and would be opposed by Britain. …

Ha...in Greece there are only 2 traffic rules....

1. Don't hit anything.

2. If the car in front goes through a red light...you can also.

Chicago has a mayor, whose motorcade routinely runs red lights.

His response: He always pays the fines.

So I guess as long as you pay the fines, you should be able to do whatever you want.

LOL. Welcome to Federalism, Britain. In the good old days in the US, if you got your license suspended in one state, you just got one in another state and the states hardly ever coordinated their paper records. Now, with computers, you're screwed no matter where you commit a driving offense.

This is what happens when you live in a part of the world where countries are the size of States in the U.S.

Over in the Old World, though, it’s more imperialism than federalism.

So, when are we going to start calling europe the “western soviet union” to differentiate it from the “eastern soviet union”?

The only difference seems to boil down to geography.

Or, with europe and its nihilistic worldview, may become the northern caliphate, hellbent on Judeo-Christian suicide as they are.

In order to become the western USSR, they have to get rid of all state religions in its member states and forbid public religious worship of any kind. They do have the USSR’s governmental structure though, with the Parliament as the Supreme Soviet and the Commission as the Politburo.
