From YubaNet.com Columns Howard Dean | Hidden Agenda: A National Draft in the Future? Author: Howard Dean Published on Sep 20, 2004, 07:08 A key issue for young Americans and their families to consider as they prepare to cast their votes in the upcoming presidential election is the real likelihood of a military draft being reinstated if President Bush is re-elected. President Bush should tell us now whether he supports a military draft. Here is the evidence that makes a draft likely: The U.S. Army has acknowledged that they are stretched thin and that finding new recruits is challenging. They...

This is the text of an email I recieved at work today: From: (uninfomed well intentioned Mom -DNC propoganda tool) I would not forward something onto the entire business unit, unless I felt it VERY important, just as this is! Please read and be aware of this bill, when you go to the polls to vote in November. Please pass along to friends and family. Thanks From: (Propoganda Pusher) This is very long but print it off and read at your leisure. Please be aware that our children – BOYS & GIRLS alike, grandchildren and family members will ALL be...

When I was in New York for the big protest before this year's Republican National Convention, I was confused by some of the professionally printed signs that the protestors were carrying. The signs said "No Draft No Way". The organization that, I assume, had the signs printed have a web site here. Their "Draft Threat Advisory", by the way, is set at "Yellow, Significant Risk of Conscription." Here is a still from some of the video I took of the protest, so you can see one of the signs from this organization in evidence: The old draft was abolished in...

Elect George Bush, some Kerry surrogates said last week, and you or your children will be drafted to fight in Iraq. Inspiring fear in voters seems to be in political vogue this fall. (Cheney has since amended his comments to say he meant to argue that Bush has a more serious approach to deterring terrorists than does Kerry.)

Hi fellow Freepers. I just got this e-mail from one of my misguided Liberal Dem friends. I don't know how to answer this, because, I don't know if it's true. Does anyone out there have some info on this? Is it a Democratic dirty trick, playing on the fears of mothers everywhere? I would love to reply to my friend with some concrete information. I know Israel has a mandatory draft, and it's a good thing, but I'm not sure how well it would go over here in USA. Your help my lovable pj bloggers, is desperatly needed.

I just recieved this through a yahoo group that I belong to. (I won't comment on the senders polital leanings) a question posted was "Is there any more backgroup information that says one way or another what the true status of these bills is other than "in committee"? "" It is probably old news here, but any concrete info to counter the draft scare (true facts you know) might help. >>>>>>>>>>>>> Sorry for sending this type of info to the list but I feel this affects each and everyone of us. If you are a supporter of the draft then...

The United States military may run out of national guard and reserve troops for the war on terrorism because of existing limits on involuntary mobilisations, a congressional watchdog agency warned in a report released overnight (AEST). Government Accountability Office (GAO) said the US Government has considered changing the policy to make members of the 1.2 million-strong guard and reserve subject to repeated involuntary mobilisation, so long as no single mobilisation exceeds 24 consecutive months.

Bill Clinton and the Draft Terry McCaulif has a lot of nerve even mentioning President Bush's military service. For all the years he and the entire Democrat herd of minions defended the Draft Dodger-in-Chief, it is the height of hypocrisy. And then, of course, there is Senator Kerry (see Kerry Timeline). In referring to Clinton during the 1992 Presidential race, Kerry stated in the Senate Congressional Record: "I am saddened by the fact that Vietnam has yet again been inserted into the campaign, and that it has been inserted in what I feel to be the worst possible way....

In case some of you did not know this! I see some democrats hanging a sign about the V.P. as a draft dodger. They don't know this or don't want to know this!! Clinton Facts This is worth keeping and filing for future reference.... Have you seen this? Bill Clinton registers for the draft on September 08, 1964, accepting all contractual conditions of registering for the draft. Given Selective Service Number 326 46 228. Bill Clinton classified 2-S on November 17, 1964. Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on March 20, 1968. Bill Clinton ordered to report for induction on July 28,...

Democrats should face it: they are incompetent and Bush will be reelected. With less than two months to go before the election, John Kerry is yet to address a single important issue. William Rivers Pitt, who runs the liberal web site, "Truthout," vented his frustration by declaring the election the dumbest ever (Sept. 10). The entire election, thus far, Pitt says, has been about Republican and Democratic TV ads. Pitt lists the real issues that remain unaddressed before the electorate: a war based on intelligence manipulation and deception, the loss of jobs, health care’s rising cost and declining coverage, the...

Was talking to a friend of mine tonight at church (who is a former member of the 101st. He was a door gunner in a "slick." His group was called the "ghost riders."). At every rally we need to have a group of people chanting the following hey-hey ho-ho sign the form one eight oh. So what do you guys think?

Has anyone checked Bush's lottery number for the draft? If Bush was born on July 6, 1946 his birthdate was included in the first drawing in 1969. If I'm reading the results from the lottery correctly, Bush would have never been drafted and he knew it when he joined the TANG. Makes an interesting comparison with Kerry who tried who tried to get a deferrment to go to France. How about checking me on this?

I am tired of watching Dan Rather continuously act as if his documents are legitimate. I decided to take matter into my own hands. I would like for everyone to pass this image on to anyone and everyone who will look at it. On my page, simply right click on the image and download it to your disk. Then send it to everyone on your email list. The truth is right in front of everyone's face, yet Dan Rather continues to lie. I took one of the memos that was supposed to have been typed on a typewriter in 1973....

ANCHORAGE--An Alaska Army National Guard unit is among dozens nationwide called to involuntary active duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, state military officials said Friday. It's the first time an infantry unit from Alaska has been pressed into federal involuntary service since World War II, officials said. "This is an important, historic event," said Lt. Col. Mike Bridges, deputy commander of 207th Infantry Group, which oversees the unit called. "We've had units and individuals from the Alaska National Guard serve in Iraq and Afghanistan and Kuwait previously, but not infantry units," said Major Mike Haller, a Guard spokesman. Last Updated Wed, 08 Sep 2004 11:27:18 EDT NELSON, B.C. - B.C. activists plan to erect a bronze sculpture honouring draft dodgers, four decades after Americans opposed to the Vietnam War sought refuge in Canada. The memorial, created by artists in Nelson, B.C., ties into a two-day celebration planned for July 2006 that pays tribute to as many as 125,000 Americans who fled to Canada between 1964 and 1977. * LINKS: Seeking Sanctuary: Draft Dodgers "This will mark the courageous legacy of Vietnam War resisters and the Canadians who helped them resettle in...

Despite Clinton's advice to drop the Vietnam topic, Kerry and his subordinates continue to hammer away at GW's ANG service. They need to drop this, because a comparison of Bush and Kerry on this topic is not flattering to Kerry. This is what one voter has learned from digging around a bit on this issue. Please check this over and contribute corrections and suggestions. Bush Kerry Not available in WW-II, college deferments began during the Korea War, along with deferments for other situations. The Selective Service even admitted during the Vietnam War that this was intentional, in an infamous document...

Excerpt: "If I got three Purple Hearts for three scratches, I'd be embarrassed," said Ted Sampley, who fought in Vietnam and publishes U.S. Veteran Dispatch. He remembers soldiers turning away awards for minor injuries. Mr. Kerry has said none of his Purple Heart injuries, only one of which removed him from the field for two days, was critical. After his third Purple Heart, Mr. Kerry requested and was granted permission to return to the United States to work behind a desk in New York. Even while still a Navy man, he began traveling to antiwar rallies with leading war protesters...

WASHINGTON -- Despite repeated assurances from the Bush administration that there are no plans to reinstitute conscription, a national survey released Wednesday found that nearly two-thirds of adults are concerned that the country "could be headed for a draft in the near future." Among those of draft age, 32 percent of those questioned said they would not serve if they were selected in a draft, and 20 percent said they would actively seek deferments. The telephone survey of 1,028 adults was conducted Aug. 2-8 for the Alliance for Security, a project of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation, a humanitarian...
