This is the text of an email I recieved at work today:
From: (uninfomed well intentioned Mom -DNC propoganda tool)
I would not forward something onto the entire business unit, unless I felt it VERY important, just as this is! Please read and be aware of this bill, when you go to the polls to vote in November. Please pass along to friends and family.
Thanks
From: (Propoganda Pusher)
This is very long but print it off and read at your leisure. Please be aware that our children BOYS & GIRLS alike, grandchildren and family members will ALL be affected!
This is the link to check out bill HR163 Mandatory Draft
I think everyone should be aware of this. Please think about the following before you vote!
Express your preference!
Mandatory draft for boys and girls ages 18-26, Starting June 15, 2005, is something that everyone should know about.
This literally effects everyone since we all have or know children that will have to go if this bill is passed.
There is pending legislation in the house and senate (companion bills: S89 and HR163) which will time the programs initiation so the draft can begin as early as spring, 2005 just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the publics attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately. Details and likn follow.
This plan, among other things, eliminates higher education as a shelter and includes women in the draft. Also, crossing into Canada has already been made very difficult.
Actions:
Please send this on to all the parents and teachers you know, all family members, and let your children know its their future, and they can be a powerful voice for change!
This legislation is called HR163 and can be found in detail at this website:
Just enter HR163 and click search and it will bring up the bill for you to read. It is less than 2 pages long.
If this bill passes, it will include all men and ALL WOMEN from ages 18-26 in a draft for military action. In addition, college will no longer be an option for avoiding the draft and they will be signing an agreement with the Canada which no longer permit anyone attempting to dodge the draft to stay within its borders. This bill also includes the extension of military service for all those that are currently active.
If you go to the selective service website and read their 2004 FYI Goals you will see that the reasoning for this is to increase the size of the military in case of terrorism. This is a critical piece of legislation, this will effect our undergraduates, our children, and grandchildren.
Please take the time to write your congressman and let them know how you feel about this legislation.
Please also write to your representative and ask them why they arent telling their constituents about these bills and write to newspapers and other media outlets to ask them why theyre not covering this important story.
The draft $28 million has been added to the 2004 selective service system budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. Selective Service must report to Bush on March 31, 2004, that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation.
Please see http://www.sss.gov/perfplan_fy2004.html
to view the Selective Service System annual performance plan, fiscal year 2004.
The pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide. Though this is an unpopular election year topic, military experts and influential members of congress are suggesting that if Rumsfelds prediction of a long, hard slog in Iraq and Afghanistan (and permanent state of war on terrorism) proves accurate, the U.S. may have no choice but to draft.
http://www.hslda.org/legislation/national/2003/s89/default.asp entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons age 18-26 in the US, including women, perform a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes. These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services. Dodging the draft will be more difficult than those from the Vietnam era. College and Canada will not be options. In December, 2001, Canada and the US signed a smart border declaration, which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canadas minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, the US Homeland Security Director- Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30 pint plan which implements, among other things, a pre-clearance agreement of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.
What to do: Tell your friends, contact your legislators and ask them to oppose these bills.
We cant just sit and pretend that by ignoring it, that it will go away. We must voice our concerns and create the world we want to live in for our children and grandchildren.
To whom it may concern,
These are the first specifics I have seen, although the generality has floated around for a while. The only justification for any draft is a continuation of the war footing in practice that still falls far short of objective justification, or reasonable analysis based on facts rather than propaganda.
I believe the mandatory applies to registration, not to service. If it is mandatory service that introduces an incredible expansion and extension of government intervention in our lives.
IMHO, the apparent erasing of gender, race, or other bases for favored treatment is at best an illusion. One does not have to be particularly insightful to see the community service loophole. Guess who will be earmarked for that. No doubt, providing for Seante and Congressional interns extending to state, county, local, or even non-profit activities. The great unwashed are not likely to get fair distribution of Those plums.
The time spent on considering these bills would be better spent dissecting the Project fo New American Centurys road map the Bush Administration has been following in lockstep. Read that report and you will find similarities to Mein Kampf. Of course, baby boomers probably need to research what that document is as will as how it was implemented.
Read it for yourself. Take the action you feel appropriate for you, your children and theirs. Then keep your congressional representatives and senators feet to the fire until you get a clear statement of agreement to quash this. No doubt you will receive canned responses. Thank them for the canned response and point out how that does NOT address the issue to your satisfaction.
Reclaim your basic rights by using them. The Constitution is there to protect us from a government that encroaches on those fundamental rights or otherwise trashes them.
I thought Id give you a little bit of information regarding this that didnt come off a scary email or campaign posting.
(The senate Version)
Mr. HOLLINGS introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Armed Services (Sen. Hollings is a Democrat from South Carolina.)
(The house version)
Mr. RANGEL (for himself, Mr. MCDERMOTT, Mr. CONYERS, Mr. LEWIS of Georgia, Mr. STARK, and Mr. ABERCROMBIE) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services
Congresmen Rangel, Conyers, Lewis, McDermott, Stark, and Abercrombie are also all Demcrats.
Its informative, and likely something not mentioned by most sources of information.
Several campaigns try to paint this as republican idea when in fact its a solidly Democrat position that is unlikely to pass the GOP controlled senate or house.
Im sure Jim Holt would appreciate your support in defeating Blanche Lincoln if you think these bills are a bad idea.
New American Centurys road map the Bush Administration has been following in lockstep.
As to that line, I have nothing kind to say. These are Bills brought up by Democrats.
Please let your friend know that you dont appreciate being used as a tool to disseminate propaganda.

Oooooo! I like that!
What sort of place do you work at where employees are allowed to send political spam?
Good response, by the way, where does it say who authored the bills? Where can I find out? Has she responded to you yet??
They aren't supposed to, it's flies against many rules. Her leader got this spam too, so I'll leave it up to him to handle the 'coaching' or any discipline.
The person who sent her this letter called me and let me know that she didn't intend for it to be broadcast to so many people. I told her to be have care with her sources.
Translation: "We need to do something about those Joooooos..."
This has been an item for the Fascist Liberals to beat their drums over for about six months now.
I once belonged to a Message Board that was concerned with Yosemite National Park. The topics were what the bears had done lately, new or good camping spots, scenic hikes and improved trails.
Some Democratic-addicted Dufus put a message on the board. It was exactly the same as this message. Then, Dufus responded vitriolically to persons who questioned the message's authenticity. I opted out from any further participation.
I did my research. What I found was that, yes, this was being pushed. A new Draft. BUT, it was being propelled by: Charlie Rangel-DEMOCRAT Carl Levin--DEMOCRAT and John Conyers-DEMOCRAT [ To translate this website to SPANISH or ARABIC Enter the web address www.house.gov/ conyers after clicking on the language preference above Welcome Message ... http://www.house.gov/conyers/ ]
Typical Democrat trick: Do something abominable, then blame Republicans for doing it.
Charlie Rangel started this crap because he thinks the military is full of poor black kids. I guess some one finally told him the military is voluntary and he wanted to change that...so more rich kids will have to go to war. He is such an idiot.
Thanks, i did find it on the official govt site.
The bills are not being pushed. It's quite true that the two bills mentioned would require both men and women aged 18 through 25 to perform a two-year period of "national service," which incidentally could be either military or non-military service. But the bills are sponsored only by Democrats, and there's not the slightest evidence that the Bush administration is pushing for them, quietly or otherwise.
One bill is HR 163 , whose principle sponsor is Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York. It has 14 co-sponsors, all of them Democrats in a Congress controlled by Republicans. The bill was dead on arrival: it sits in a House subcommittee with no hearings or votes scheduled and no action expected.
In fact, Rangel told FactCheck.org through his spokesman Emile Milne that even he isn't pushing for passage, let alone Bush (emphasis added):
Rep. Rangel: I'm not pushing this bill . It's up to the President to come to me when he needs it.
The identical Senate bill, S. 89 , introduced by Democratic Sen. Ernest Hollings, and also was DOA. Not one other senator has co-sponsored it. It also sits in committee with no action scheduled or expected.
Both bills in question were drawn up before the Iraq war started, mostly to make a political point. Rangel said he acted to highlight Democratic objections to use of military force against Saddam Hussein. He wrote , "I truly believe that decision-makers who support war would more readily feel the pain of conflict and appreciate the sacrifice of those on the front lines if their children were there, too."
Thanks Ravingnutter, I'll forward that link on to rest of the folks in her email chain as well. LOL
