American Airlines has confirmed that a service dog incident caused a flight from Provo, Utah, to Dallas, Texas, to re-route and make an emergency landing in Colorado Springs. The flight was rerouted around 3 p.m. yesterday. The Colorado Springs Fire Department confirms that they transported a patient from the airport to a local hospital because of a dog bite, but couldn't tell KRDO13 how serious the injury was, or where the patient is now located. KRDO13 is pressing local law enforcement and federal law enforcement to see if a criminal investigation is underway. Colorado Springs Police and the F.B.I. both...

In the 2011 HBO documentary One Nation Under Dog, a Haddonfield Rhodesian Ridgeback named Duke was euthanized on camera. The dog had bit off a girl’s ear in 2009 and then attacked a teenager in 2011. In New Jersey, a vicious dog with a pattern of aggressive behavior can indeed be euthanized. Dog bites are a serious public health hazard, and appropriate measures must be taken when a dog has demonstrated that it acts aggressively. To allow the dog to continue attacking is simply irresponsible. Euthanasia is actually the most common way that both house cats and dogs die. It...

A 16-year-old girl was in serious condition after being mauled by six of her family’s large dogs at their home in Southern California over the weekend, authorities said. A neighbor called 911 to report the attack around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Thousand Oaks, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. Sheriff’s Capt. Ron Chips said the teen suffered “several significant lacerations and dog bites to her head, torso, and arms.” The girl’s mother was also bit, but not seriously injured, he said. The dogs were identified as cane corsos, a type of mastiff, the Ventura County Star reported Monday. When...

Family says the breed of dog is to blame, not the owner. A White Rock family is calling for a ban on pit bulls after their four-year-old daughter was attacked by a friend's dog while playing at a backyard barbeque. Emma-Leigh Cranford had being playing with the pit bull just days before the attack. But her parents Elizabeth and Mike Cranford say the dog pinned her against a fence and bit her face savagely at a barbecue last week. "All I heard was a growl and she was pinned between the bench and the fence and he was just on...

Police say two Bluffton men probably saved a woman’s life on the city’s west side Wednesday night after three vicious dogs attacked her as she mowed her grass. The incident, however, came as no surprise to some neighbors who feared the dogs would attack someone someday. Wells County EMS rushed Jane Brown, 69, of 1118 W. Market St., to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne after she was mauled by three mix-breed dogs around 6:43 p.m. that somehow escaped from a fenced-in area next to her house. Police said late Wednesday night that Brown was in stable condition after she suffered...
