Netflix has vetoed Designated Survivor‘s hope for a fourth season, cancelling the ABC cast-off after a 10-episode try-out on the streaming service. “We are proud to have offered fans a third season of Designated Survivor, and will continue to carry all three seasons for years to come,” reads a statement from Netflix. “We’re especially thankful to star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, who brought passion, dedication and an unforgettable performance as President Kirkman. We’re also grateful to showrunner/executive producer Neal Bear for his guiding vision and steady hand, creator/executive producer David Guggenheim and EPs Mark Gordon, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg,...

During Designated Survivor Season 3, every time a person brings to President Kirkman’s attention a video of a citizen’s testimonial, what he watches is never an actor reading from a script but actual documentary footage. Some of the topics covered throughout the 10-episode season (now available on Netflix) include opioid addiction and the exorbitant cost of life-sustaining medicines such as insulin. “A mother whose child died of diabetes, people addicted to opioids, people who were in a transgender therapy group…. It’s always real,” Season 3 showrunner Neal Baer tells TVLine of the video clips. “When there are people saying to...

It appears there has been a recount! As foreshadowed by our August 13 Blind Item, the Kiefer Sutherland drama Designated Survivor — cancelled last May at ABC — has been resurrected by Netflix, with the streamer ordering a 10-episode Season 3. Netflix confirmed the news late Wednesday, while also announcing that Neal Baer (Law & Order: SVU, Under the Dome) has taken over showrunner duties. This marks the series’ fourth showrunner change in two years. To recap: Amy B. Harris (Wicked City) originally served as showrunner on the series (which was created by David Guggenheim), only to be replaced in...

Designated Survivor airs Wednesdays at 10/9c, with its season finale set for May 16. ABC will hold its annual Upfront Presentation to advertisers, where its complete 2018-19 schedule and new programming announcements are revealed, on Tuesday, May...

Designated Survivor… while a promising and interesting premise, it has turned unto predictable crappy PeeCee nauseating liberal mush. What makes it worse is that it’s no surprise. Rich and privileged Hollywood these days... much prefers to preach and lecture us on our (perceived by them) “shortcomings” than to actually entertain. It IMHO will be their undoing.

Is anybody watching the new show Designated Survivor? I thought the first show, where nearly everyone in the Fed Government was blown up at the State of the Union address, was pretty much even-handed. Now I am having second thoughts.

Patricia McCarthy: Too soon to knowAnyone who read Tom Clancy's novel, Debt of Honor, published in 1994, has most likely wondered why it was not made into a film long ago. It is a gripping novel, written long before 9/11. The book tells the story of a Japanese man whose parents were killed at the end of WWII. He plots his deranged revenge by becoming a pilot and ultimately flying a jetliner into the Capitol building during the State of the Union address. In that book, his main character Jack Ryan, from his books Hunt for Red October, Clear and...

DESIGNATED SURVIVOR. From writer-producer David Guggenheim, who wrote two 2012 movies: “Safe House” (53% positive on Rotten Tomatoes) and “Stolen” (16%). When the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Defense, Attorney General and almost all the other top-ranking cabinet officials die at the same time, Kiefer Sutherland finds himself running the United States.

WASHINGTON -- Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson stayed away from the Capitol Tuesday night in case of a catastrophic attack or accident as President Bush delivered his State of the Union address. House and Senate leaders of both parties also asked four top lawmakers to skip the speech, which is given in the House chamber. By long-standing tradition, a member of the president's Cabinet misses the speech to Congress as a precaution against the entire administration being wiped out and to maintain the presidential line of succession. The last two years then-Commerce Secretary Donald Evans did not attend.
