Charlie Culberson tried to score from second on a single by Justin Turner and was initially called out by umpire Mike Winters for not touching home plate after evading Willson Contreras' tag. The Dodgers challenged the call, and after a video review, it was determined that Contreras blocked the plate before he received the ball. The interpretation of the rule infuriated Maddon. The Dodgers challenged on the grounds Contreras broke rule 7.13, which states "unless the catcher is in possession of the ball, the catcher cannot block the pathway of the runner as he is attempting to score. If, in...

I am a Braves fan and can't believe that the Braves beat the Cubs (well, in one game only) 5 to 1. The Cubs are tough and have incredible pitching, a great batting line up, and a solid defense. About dam time. Go Braves!

CHICAGO -- A WGN News exclusive -- Steve Bartman has received an official Chicago Cubs 2016 World Series Championship ring as a special gift from the Ricketts family and the Cubs organization. Arguably the team's most infamous fan, Bartman is remembered for tipping a foul ball that left fielder Moises Alou unsuccessfully dove for in the stands during Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series. Now, 14 years later, Cubs owner Tom Ricketts thought it was high time to extend an olive branch. Bartman received the ring before noon Monday in Ricketts' office. Cubs President of Baseball Operations...

Baez's emergence as one of baseball's most exciting players has been told of many times. Obviously, that part of the tale -- the one in which he helps the Cubs win their first title in 108 years -- was a pretty important prerequisite to Wednesday's festivities. So too was another story that has been well-covered: the loss of Baez's sister, Noely, to spina bifida in 2015 at the tragically young age of 21. It was that part of Baez's story that caught the attention of Grace Davis, a young Cubs fan in Jefferson City, Missouri. Grace is now 20 years...

Former pitcher Bill Hands, a 20-game winner for the 1969 Cubs, died Thursday in an Orlando, Fla., hospital after a brief illness. He was 76. Hands won 111 games over 11 big-league seasons, including a 92-86 record with a 3.18 ERA in seven seasons with the Cubs. Signed by the Giants as an amateur free agent in 1959, Hands, whose nickname was "Froggy," was part of the one of the best trades in Cubs history, coming over after the 1965 season with catcher Randy Hundley for outfielder Don Landrum and reliever Lindy McDaniel.

The Chicago Cubs will be the final pro sports team to celebrate a championship with President Obama at the White House before he leaves office. It turns out, the Cubs have reportedly decided to take Obama up on his offer to visit before Donald Trump is sworn in as our 45th president. They’ll visit Monday, four days before the inauguration. After the Cubs won the World Series in November, Obama — a White Sox fan from the Southside of Chicago — invited the Cubs to take part in the traditional presidential celebration earlier than normal. Usually, these visits happen during...

Cleveland Indians fans have rioted across the country in protest of the 2016 World Series. Despite knowing the rules of the game prior to playing, they were unhappy they lost and demanded the outcome to be changed. They could be heard chanting #NotOurWorldSeriesChampion all across America. Even though the Cubs won 4 games and the Indians only won 3, since both teams scored 27 total runs throughout all 7 games, they are being declared co-world champions. When questioned, Commissioner Manfred stated, "We felt as though it was the right thing to do for the nation. What kind of example would...

Karen Michel, a fan from Whiting, told MLB.com she was hoping that there might somehow be an extra ticket available at the Progressive Field box office. After being told the game was sold out, she spotted Murray walking by and decided to follow him. "He turns around and says, 'Here, here's a ticket,'" Michel told MLB.com. "And he kind of shuttled me into the door. I thought it was just a ticket to get in. But it was a ticket to sit right here." You can see her here next to Bill Murray. She got to sit in a $15,000...

You have to think Hillary is breathing a little easier for at least one news cycle where now the Cubs will take the news lead and not her and the Clinton Crime Family. Both the Cubs and Hitlery are from Illinois. But that's just coincidental. /sarc

It will be hard for the Cubs to come back from this 3-1 deficit. As the Cavaliers taught us earlier this year, a 3-1 lead isn’t insurmountable, but Elo rates the Cubs’ the total chance of winning the Series at a measly 15 percent. (That’s a smaller chance than FiveThirtyEight’s election forecast model currently gives Donald Trump to win the White House.) But if Chicago is going to have any chance of a Series win, they’ll have to awaken their bats in Sunday’s game.

A couple of Chicago Cubs fans are fighting a bitter custody battle... of two precious baseball tickets. A divorcing suburban mother submitted an 'emergency petition for World Series tickets' this week, according to Cook County court documents obtained by the Associated Press Friday. Nancy Riddle wanted to the Cubs's Game 4 against the Cleveland Indians Saturday. But a judge's order says the tickets are held by her estranged husband and fellow Cubs fan John Riddle. Judge Marya Nega ruled after in-court arguments that the husband can keep the tickets for himself and the couple's 12-year-old son but should pay for...

Hillary Clinton’s Pander Express pulled into “The Breakfast Club” today and she attempted to explain her support for the New York Yankees — but also for the Chicago Cubs. After one of the hosts showed her his t-shirt featuring a photo of Clinton in a Yankees hat, he said, “I heard you were a Cubs fan,” about halfway through the interview. “I am,” she responded, “that’s my National League team.” “Y’all in the Super Bowl, I mean the World Series,” he said. “Yeah, we’re in the Super Bowl,” Clinton said, before the other hosts jumped in to correct her. “World...

As a 43-year-old lifelong Red Sox fan, I understand heartbreak. I know exactly what it’s like to be a Cubs fan as they hurtle toward another potential devastating post-season loss. That’s why I should be excited and rooting right along with Cubs Nation as they set their sights on their first World Series title since 1908. But I just can’t get into it. Why? Because their owner, the Ricketts family, has done more to kill constitutional conservative campaigns this election cycle than just about any group in America. Who are the Ricketts and how are they protecting Big Government RINOs...

It will be a team of destiny facing a team of density, the Dodgers having packed their roster so thickly with heroes that a closer was hiding in their starting rotation. The Dodgers used every bit of that and more Thursday night – a closer pitching in the seventh inning, tag-team starting pitchers, backup catchers pinch-running and pinch-hitting – and finally turned to Clayton Kershaw to close it out after Manager Dave Roberts said he would “absolutely not” do that, not even for one batter. They somehow managed to both come-from-behind and hold on for their dear lives, beating the...
