Police said around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday they observed three 2020 Corvettes turning onto Lovers Lane and accelerating heavily. According to the arrest report, a red Corvette reached 120 mph in the left lane and a white Corvette reached 100 mph in the right lane. The posted speed limit on the road was 45 mph. After they were pulled over, the men told police they were GM employees and had recently left the Cue Time bar.

Peter Max was not a car guy. So when he purchased a collection of 36 Chevrolet Corvettes, one from every year of manufacture up until 1989, he had a very specific plan: He would use this slice of American history as a tool to self-promote his work as an artist, painting the machines in lurid colors while staging them in various oddball scenarios only the most expressive of minds could envision. Only that never happened. Instead, Max left his collection in a New York City storage lot, which is where they've lived for a quarter of a century, sat gathering...

After a decade of development, testing and extended sea trials, Sweden has finally put two of its Visby class "stealth" corvettes (HMS Helsingborg and HMS Härnösand) into service. This finally happened on December 16th. With a hull made of carbon fiber material, and topside surfaces shaped to deflect radar, the Visby is hard to spot electronically. Travelling at less than 22 kilometers an hour (13 in rough seas), the Visby is practically invisible to radar. The 650 ton ships are armed with a 57mm gun, plus eight RBS-15 anti-ship missiles (max range of 70 kilometers), as well as anti-submarine torpedoes,...

Coming at You from Underwater Russian President Vladimir Putin is to approve the weapons program for 2007-2015 in the coming days. Its places priority on naval strategic forces. Twice the amount of funds are being allotted to the construction of nuclear submarines as to shipbuilding. This is the continuation of a tendency in recent years that has brought the Russian shipbuilding industry to a state where it cannot even produce small military craft on schedule, never mind large-scale projects. Missile Kings Nuclear submarines have long been the love of the Russian military. Even with a shortage of floating forces, the...

London 20.02.05 | Daily El Pais reports that the Hugo Chavez administration will purchase four corvettes (light military ships) to Spain. The €600-€800 million deal was broker during Spain's Minister of Defence Jose Bono's last visit to Caracas on January 25th. Purportedly Chavez would also be interested in acquiring six transport planes of the C-295 type. Socialist Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero was not elected on his own merits, or those of his failed party PSOE, but rather due to the reaction of the Spanish electorate to the Madrid bombing; a terrorist attack that was not very well handled, politically speaking,...
