“The Firstborn Son Is Presented in the Temple” (Luke 2:22-40) Yesterday was Christmas, and now we’re into the days after Christmas. For us, these days mean eating leftovers, returning gifts that don’t fit, and taking down the decorations. But what about for Jesus? What did the days after his birth mean for him? Our text is one the few places we have an account of what happened during that time. It’s the story of what happened forty days after his birth, when “The Firstborn Son Is Presented in the Temple.” Actually, the first event after Christmas we have is found...

Polish Parishes Renew Consecration on Today Feast of Our Lady of Czestochowa Continue festivities for 1,050th anniversary of nation’s baptism August 26, 2016ZENIT StaffMary and Mariology L'Osservatore Romano Poland’s Primate, Archbishop Wojciech Polak, presided over today’s celebrations of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Czestochowa at Jasna Gora. In his homily, the Primate noted that, with this celebration, we are, in a certain way, prolonging the joy of May’s Solemnity of Our Lady, Queen of Poland, when, on the occasion of the 1050th anniversary of Poland’s Baptism, we renewed our consecration to the Mother of the Redeemer.“Today’s Solemnity of Our...

Last evening one of the "elders' at our church gave the Sunday Evening Bible study, sitting in the for the pastor. He admitted that it was not the message he'd prepared, but that he felt strongly that the Lord wanted him to give. He talked about consecrating ourselves to the Lord, explaining that God had asked the Israelites on several occasions to do just that and He would fight their battles for them. He explained that God had wanted the Israelites to consecrate themselves before they went to battle in Canaan, but they were only partially obedient, and their victory...

Liturgical Ceremony for the Consecration of the Ukrainian Nation to the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God After the conclusion of the prayer beyond the ambo and the singing of "Blessed be the name of the Lord" (and the 33nd Psalm), the Priest and concelebrants stands on the ambo. Choir: Tropar (Tone 4) Let us sinners humbly and diligently have recourse to the Mother of God. Prostrate in repentance, let us cry out from the depth of our soul: O Queen, in your compassion, come to our aid! Make haste, for we are perishing from the multitude of...

The Pope celebrated mass in St Peter’s square this morning in honour of the Marian Day, an event organised as part of the Year of Faith on the anniversary of the final apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima (13th of October 1917). Please find below the full text of Pope Francis’ homily in English translation. In the Psalm we said: “Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things” (Ps 98:1). Today we consider one of the marvelous things which the Lord has done: Mary! A lowly and weak creature like ourselves, she was...

Lately, the music director at our church has been “tickling the ivories” during the Consecration. While at the piano, in the front of church (naturally), he has been playing tunes, based on hymms for sure, on the piano during the entire Consecration (with a well timed pause during the elevation). It’s not irreverent, but it does sound like “lounge music“. [As the non-liturgical instrument, the piano, nearly always does.] I find it annoying, and keep wondering when Tony Bennett comes on stage (I’m kidding, of course). [Put a brandy snifter with a dollar bill on the piano next time...
