  • Vanity: Question For Tech Savvy Freepers About VPNs

I belonged to a photography forum that has a section where members can discuss politics. About a 50/50 mix of right/left with the leftists being the usual hate filled, nasty, TDS sufferers.I loved getting the better of them with facts and logic. After one really personal, insult filled rant against me, my temper got the better of me and I responded in kind and me not him got banned. I tried rejoining under a new name and was barred. I deleted all my browsing history and cookies, but was still banned. Then I decided to try a VPN, but was still...

Back in 1978 I (i.e., the narrator Mr. Darling) worked for Cray Research, which made what was at the time the world’s fastest computer, the Cray-1. I thought it would be interesting to compare the Cray-1 with the latest model of iPhone, the iPhone 13. Apple is urging all iPhone users to download the latest iOS 17 update after the tech giant found 15 security issues that may have exposed users' sensitive data. The tech giant rolled out iOS 17.3 on Monday with several features and bug fixes. One of the exploits was discovered in Mail Search, where third-party apps could access information, and another in Safari that may have let the user's private browsing activity be visible in Settings. The updated software is not all doom and gloom as iOS 17.3 includes the new Stolen Device protection, which promises to prevent cybercriminals from locking...

I have always used Brave browser to do my online banking. Now, when I try to log in using Brave, all my login attempts are rejected and I have to resort to using Safari, which works. I tried to contact Support at Brave, but they have their website so obfuscated as to make it impossible to ask for support (which I'm sure is their intent). Has anyone experienced a similar problem, that Brave is now messing up logging in to a particular website that always used to work?

A large geomagnetic storm is expected to hit the Earth’s atmosphere later today and disrupt radio and GPS, according to models by both NASA and NOAA. The flare was spat out from the sun’s surface on Sunday, with the coronal mass ejection (CME) set to collide with the Earth at around 1 p.m. ET, Experts have warned that the CME collision could lead to G2-class or even G3-class storms, triggering GPS issues and satellite problems. The fourth victim who died when a plane built from a kit crashed in California has been identified as the son of a Zoom executive. Isaac Zimmern, 27, was with his long-time girlfriend Emma Wilmer-Shiles when they boarded the homemade aircraft piloted by their friend, Lochie Ferrier, who also died in the crash last week along with his fiancee, Cassidy Petit. Zimmern is the son of Johann Zimmern, 59, the head of Global Education Marketing at Zoom who lives in San Francisco’s Sunnyside neighborhood in a $1.1 million home, the International Business Times reports. The younger Zimmern was also living...

Almost two full years into Russia's invasion of Ukraine and with the Middle East teetering on the brink of disaster following Hamas' October 7th attacks on Israel, the threat of a wider war looms large on the horizon. Prime ministers, defence secretaries and military chiefs have claimed that the threat of a major conflict is greater now than at any other time since the Cuban Missile Crisis. European governments one after the other have issued grave warnings to their citizens to start preparing for a fight. And now, NATO countries are gearing up for one of their largest-ever drills, with...

I forgot my password to sign into Intuit when I tried to install TurboTax. I had to call their customer service to get to the page to reset the password. Their representative sent me an email with a link to enter some information. They require you to send a picture of your license or passport before you can reset the password. This seem excessive just to reset a password. Has anyone had any experiences like this? Thanks

Long story short, then, we love Flight Simulator. There’s just one problem, though, and it’s a fairly big one. What happens when you run out of ideas? As a sandbox, the game is great. Choose where to start, choose where to end, and enjoy the flight. But not everybody is comfortable with setting their own parameters like that in a game. Some people play games for the satisfaction of completing challenges set for them. In other words, some players like being told what to do and seeing if they can successfully do it. The 2020 release has some of this...

Nearly one year later, Google is still directing those looking for information on “pregnancy” toward the largest abortion mill in the country: Planned Parenthood. MRC Free Speech America researchers analyzed Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo search results for the word “pregnancy” in a “clean environment” one week before the 51st annual national March for Life in Washington, D.C. Bing and DuckDuckGo elevated neutral results with links to popular health websites like Mayo Clinic and Healtline.com, as one might expect. But Google’s first result was a link to Planned Parenthood’s landing page on pregnancy. Planned Parenthood did not show up at all...

Can a computer problem get any weirder? I'm running a fast Dell laptop with Win 11 Pro. If I play audio from YouTube while browsing with Brave (or Chrome), System sounds, test tones from Windows' troubleshooter, etc., play over a bluetooth speaker just fine, but the audio on the YouTube vid plays only over the tiny laptop speakers. (Nothing is connected to the headphone jack.) I've been all through Windows troubleshooting, and even a session with a MS tech support rep, to no avail, other than doing a Shift + Shutdown now results with (after booting back up and returning...

A senior Ubisoft official suggested that gamers need to get comfortable not owning their games. The executive's perspective on the subject of game ownership, or lack thereof, arrived amid his company's latest digital push that saw Ubisoft make big changes to its subscription service. Philippe Tremblay, Ubisoft's director of subscription, labeled the latest changes as the company's attempt to "evolve." In a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the executive explained that splitting the subscription offering into two will allow the publisher to better cater to its ever-diversifying customer base, which now includes a substantial number of people who are primarily interested...
