For example, I'm reading a thread and see a post that would be useful info to another thread. Rather than copying and pasting the entire post, how do I create a link for only that post? I know how to create a link for the entire thread, but not for a single post. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Long live the King! The Elvis Presley revival that began with Austin Butler’s Oscar-nominated turn in 2022’s “Elvis” and then continued with Jacob Elordi’s portrayal of the late rock legend in Sofia Coppola’s recent “Priscilla” drama is showing no signs of dying down with a new immersive show that will bring him back to life in an AI hologram. Forty-seven years after Presley’s 1977 death, “Elvis Evolution” will open in London in November 2024 at a theater yet to be announced. And Layered Reality — the UK company producing the event — promises a “jaw-dropping” experience.“The show peaks with a concert...

Perplexity, a startup going after Google’s dominant position in web search, has won backing from Jeff Bezos and venture capitalists betting that artificial intelligence will upend the way people find information online. Started less than two years ago, Perplexity has fewer than 40 employees and is based out of a San Francisco co-working space. The company’s product, which it calls an answer engine, is used by about 10 million people monthly. Those ingredients were enough to persuade Institutional Venture Partners, Bezos and other tech executives to invest $74 million in the company, the largest sum raised by an internet search...

Elon Musk is presently the richest man in the world. He may also be the smartest. In an interview with the British prime minister, Musk warned about the dangers of AI (artificial intelligence). He said, "There will come a point when no job is needed – you can have a job if you want for personal satisfaction, but the AI will be able to do everything."Breitbart.com has added a new category to its menu: AI danger. • Outlook Problem: "The linked image cannot be displayed."

Good afternoon fellow Freepers. I got a doozy of a problem I'm hoping that someone has a fix for. It seems that Microsoft Outlook, no matter the version (and I have 2010, 2016 and 2019), won't download remote content anymore. Thunderbird will, but Outlook will not. Every time I get an email with an image, I get an error message that says, "The linked image cannot be displayed. The file may have been moved, renamed or deleted. Verify that the link points to the......" I have been all over the internet, used three different search engines, and all of the...
  • Republicans slam DOJ for dropping campaign finance charges against major Democratic donor Sam Bankman-Fried: 'So we won't know which politicians he bribed?'

Critics are accusing the DOJ of sweeping additional charges against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried under the rug, after prosecutors said he would not face a second trial for campaign finance violations following his conviction last month. In a letter filed on Friday night in federal court in Manhattan, prosecutors said the 'strong public interest' in a prompt resolution of the case outweighed the benefits of a second trial. In his letter to the court, US Attorney Damian Williams noted that prosecutors introduced evidence about all of the dropped charges during Bankman-Fried's monthlong first trial, where he was found guilty on...

When we look back on 2023 from whatever surreal future it forks into, we’ll remember it as the year that at least this much became clear: AI will forever change how we work, learn, create, interact with (mis)information, and think about ourselves. To determine the 2023 Word of the Year, we, the humans here at Dictionary.com, gave ourselves a prompt: Using lexicography and data science, choose a single word that best represents, at this moment, AI’s many profound ramifications for the future of language and life. Like the output of many prompts, the result may not be what you were...

Transistors have been doubling every three years instead of twoWhy it matters: Recent developments in hardware production have intensified the conversation regarding how much time Moore's Law has left. Nvidia has repeatedly declared its death, but AMD and Intel believe it has only slowed down and that numerous innovations can help new products maintain the performance improvements clients expect. MIT recently posted a video of a talk from earlier this year where Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger commented on recent assertions that Moore's Law could end soon. Gelsinger believes the rule guiding chip production for almost six decades still holds...

"I've written papers about it, and I've tried to put together a prototype license," Perens explains in an interview with The Register. "Obviously, I need help from a lawyer. And then the next step is to go for grant money."Perens says there are several pressing problems that the open source community needs to address.I feel that IBM has gotten everything it wants from the open source developer community now, and we've received something of a middle finger from...

The Linux Foundation has released their 2023 Annual Report... and it is an absolute doozy. The first big headline? As of 2023, The Linux Foundation now spends just 2% -- that's two percent -- of their revenue on their namesake: The Linux Kernel. "Ask yourself this: If there is a foundation named after a specific thing... what percentage of that foundation's revenue would you expect to be spent on said thing? Let's say... "Save the Orange Trees Foundation". How much of their revenue should be spent on, you know, orange trees? 100%? 50%? 10%? If "Save the Orange Trees" only...

All-TIME 100 Gadgets TIME technology editor Peter Ha picks the 100 greatest and most influential gadgets from 1923 to the present ---- (2010) How We Chose the List Picking humanity's 100 greatest gadgets is no easy task. If we were starting from the beginning of humanity itself, the list would actually be a lot easier to compile: the wheel, the lever, the telescope, the syringe, movable type — the roster practically writes itself. Bad-jacketing is a term for planting doubt on the authenticity of an individual's bona fides or identity. An example would be creating suspicion through spreading false rumors, manufacturing evidence, etc., that falsely portray someone in a community organization as an informant, or member of law enforcement, or guilty of malfeasance such as skimming organization funds. This family got bailed out by Disney in the end, but this story is hilarious (and painful). Grandma and grandpa — you gotta love 'em — decided they'd try to save some money on this 16-person family Christmas trip to Disney, so they went out to Sam's Club to purchase some Disney gift cards which are marked down 25%. For the trip, they needed $10,000, so, naturally, they bought $10,000 worth of gift cards so they could spend them at the park and save like $2,500. Only one problem with those gift cards… Those are Disney+ gift cards. 70 years...

Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Xfinity is notifying its customers that a hacker data breach got access to the personal information of 36 million customers, nearly all of Xfinity's customers. The data included passwords, user names and security-question answers. An Xfinity notice to customers this week said that the hack was due to a vulnerability in Citrix software that was patched. Subsequently, Xfinity discovered that hackers had nonetheless gained access to customers' personal data. "After additional review of the affected systems and data, Xfinity concluded on December 6, 2023, that the customer information in scope included usernames and hashed passwords; for...

Just 22 per cent of women make up AI professions globally, according to the most recent data from the World Economic Forum (WEF). It comes as no surprise, therefore, that the AI systems...
