This family got bailed out by Disney in the end, but this story is hilarious (and painful).
Grandma and grandpa — you gotta love 'em — decided they'd try to save some money on this 16-person family Christmas trip to Disney, so they went out to Sam's Club to purchase some Disney gift cards which are marked down 25%. For the trip, they needed $10,000, so, naturally, they bought $10,000 worth of gift cards so they could spend them at the park and save like $2,500.
Only one problem with those gift cards…
Those are Disney+ gift cards.
70 years worth of Disney+ gift cards.
They do not work at Disney parks.
SO GRANDMA AND GRANDPA HAD APPARENTLY WASTED $7,500 ON DISNEY+ GIFT CARDS!! Even worse, grandma and grandpa scratched the numbers off the back of the gift cards when they tried to redeem them, so they were ineligible for return.
Man, this is like its very own Christmas movie right here!
Here's the TikTok one of the siblings made of the incident:
Yeah, that went viral incredibly fast, and this lady even got invited to appear on CBS for her troubles. She took a lot of heat online for the post and I may or may not have been one of the hecklers shouting, "Why in the world did you wait until a week out from your vacation to pay for your vacation?!?!"
Anyhow, at some point they got ahold of Disney and had some employee fixing the problem one gift card at a time. My deepest condolences to that man.
In the end, they'll take the trip and maybe make some friends along the way. They're already internet famous, so I'm sure they'll be posing for more pictures than Mickey Mouse this next weekend. I'm not entirely sure which Disney location they are visiting and they probably kept that a secret on purpose.
What a great way to slide into the Christmas holiday for this family!
Thanks again, grandma and grandpa, for making this happen!
Their first mistake was even thinking of the word Disney
Amen. You gotta be pretty damn stupid to participate in Disney crap at this point.
“Slide into” is a horrible 21st century urbanism that has contaminated English.
I will give Disney for being willing to fix a situation that they did not have to.
A careless mistake that the vendor graciously repairs.
And this is what passes for news these days. I feel so sorry for people whose lives are so shallow that they get excited when something like the referenced TikTok video is posted, and develop strong feelings, one way or the other, over something so consummately banal
My state offers disney themed license plates.....every time I see one I just shake my head
I wonder if the agreement was they had to cough up full card value in order to use them. Basically, pay $10K for $10K worth of cards before Disney would accept them at their theme parks.
“A careless mistake that the vendor graciously repairs”
Considering disneys current reputation I doubt they felt the had a choice....last thing they need is MORE bad public relations.
Maybe so, but that wasn’t my principal point. But I’ll bet they would have anyway, cuz they’re going to take in the same amount of money from these people in any event
Slide into seems almost nasty.
In August, 1959, we spent the day at Disneyland. As we drove away, my father complained that we busted our budget. The admission price and ride tickets for a family of five, parking and food added up to a whopping $30.00!
I suspect right now the PR is more valuable to disney than a few thousand dollars
We are encouraged to take a side on all sorts of trivial issues. That is how we are distracted from anything we should be concerned about getting past.
Thirty Bucks? That’s supposedly about $315 today ...
Does $315 even get a family of five in the gate?
I don't know for sure, but probably not. I live nine miles from Disneyland, close enough to hear their fireworks at night, but I haven't been there since 1969, and I have no plans to go there anytime soon.
Incidentally, I visited Disneyland before it was Disneyland. My uncle had a chicken ranch on the site. That's where I heard roosters crow for the first time.
This looks bogus. No names, addresses, or any particularized facts. Holly Ash wrote the article. Either she doesn’t know how to write an article or it is a bogus article or both.
I often wonder how stupid people get that much cash?
It smelled bogus to me from the start.
