Self-deportations. Factory layoffs. Military zones. How Trump is transforming the U.S.-Mexico border.

EL PASO, TEXAS — Juan Ortíz trudged through 100-degree heat along the U.S.-Mexico border, weighed down by a backpack full of water bottles that he planned to leave for migrants trying to cross this rugged terrain.

Only there hadn’t been many migrants of late.

When Ortíz started water drops in this especially dangerous stretch of desert near El Paso nearly two years ago, he sometimes encountered dozens of people trying to reach the U.S. in a single afternoon. Now he rarely sees any. Border crossings began falling during the final months of President Biden’s term, and have plunged to their lowest levels in decades under President Trump.

“It’s dramatically different,” Ortíz said, the desert silent except for the crunch of his footsteps in the sand and the whir of a Border Patrol helicopter overhead. “Migrants no longer have any hope.”

These borderlands surrounding El Paso were long a place of risk but also opportunity. Migrants chasing the American dream crossed by the tens of thousands annually, sometimes dodging federal agents and often seeking them out to ask for asylum.

But Trump’s immigration crackdown — a total ban on asylum, a mass deportation campaign and the unprecedented militarization of the border — has altered life here in myriad ways.

Across the Rio Grande from El Paso in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juárez, shelters once hummed with life, rich with the smell of cooked stews and the chatter of people plotting their passage to the U.S.

Today those shelters are largely empty, populated by migrants stranded in Mexico when Trump took office, and others who were...

But the American people do.

Migrants no longer have any hope.

translation = aspiring criminals coming to steal benefits from hard working taxpayers are faced with a more difficult task. F*** ‘em. Human cockroaches scuffing to take things to which the have no right. If they want a better life fix where they came from. (AND THAT GOES FOR NEW YORKERS TOO.) Your voting turned NY into a tax hell. Live with it! Don’t bring your insane ideas south.

“Migrants chasing the American dream”

Ah yes. Every American dreams of being a criminal on welfare.

In other words, they come here to loot, take what’s not theirs. They don’t care about America.

“Once a hub of migrant passage, the El Paso–Juárez corridor.”

That is remarkably neutral, as though the distinction between legal and illegal immigration does not matter. In some ways that is the nub. Democrats think upholding the law is optional. They will ignore the law if they want to.

Should politicians represent Americans? That’s another question that many Democrats get wrong. Mayor Bass speaks of “Angelinos” meaning Americans and others. Senator Padilla speaks of “his constituents” meaning Americans and others. An American politician says she is from Somali and will represent Somalia.

Have our elites pursued a plan to erase borders and create a North American state? If so, it was never presented to the public.

Juan Ortíz, who trudged through 100-degree heat, doesn’t trudge anymore. He doesn’t spend money on water anymore.

He can thank President Trump for his increased life expectancy and cost savings.

What was their American dream? To be criminals?

Once a hub of migrant passage, the El Paso–Juárez corridor has fallen eerily quiet

It is only "eerily" quiet to the democRATS and DemoKKKrats that can no longer enjoy the mayhem they caused. All of the farmers, ranchers, LEGAL immigrants and others who live on or near the Southern Border are ecstatic at the "quiet."

"Migrants no longer have any hope.”

Illegal trespassers, Tren De Aragua, China, Hezbollah, La Raza, no longer have any hope of easily invading the United States of America.

So Ortiz is walking around with a backpack of water bottles. Does he sell the water bottles to thirsty illegal crossers and make a profit, or does somebody finance his generosity? And has he ever encountered any dead bodies or people who are close to dying because it's so dangerous there?

Long story about several people and a non-profit group - it's supposed to be a report or is this the script for a TV commercial that leads into .... "for just $19 per month, 63 cents a day, you can ......."

If I lived closer, I’d retrieve those water bottles and spread them around for the vegetation and small animals that need it.

“ They don’t care about America.”

Quoting Charlie Kirk: “ immigration without assimilation is invasion.”

Someone else said: a country can have a welfare state or open borders, but cannot have both. The Biden administration wanted to have both.
