The average college student has average intelligence, concludes a meta-analysis by Canadian researchers, writes Ross Pomeroy on Big Think. In 1939, when only 10 percent of Americans enrolled in college, the average IQ was 119. By 2022, it's down to 102, not significantly above the average of 100. “The decline in students’ IQ is a necessary consequence of increasing educational attainment over the last 80 years,” the researchers wrote. “Today, graduating from university is more common than completing high school in the 1940s.” The “Flynn effect” -- a steady rise in IQs from 1940 onward -- has been well established,...

When a young Birmingham college student's car broke down the night before he was supposed to start a new job, he didn't panic. At least not for long. Instead, Walter Carr walked. From Homewood to Pelham. All night. In the dark. 20 miles or more. A Carver High School graduate and U.S. Marine hopeful, Carr walked throughout the early morning hours Friday because he needed, and wanted, the job with Bellhops moving company. He made it to Hoover by 2 a.m. and then to Pelham at 4 a.m. It was in Pelham that the trek took a surprising turn. Kindness...

Make it stop. What happens when a pie-in-the-sky liberal, prattling on about social justice and all that sort of thing, actually gets challenged by someone who knows what he’s talking about and knows how to ask the right questions in the right way? This. You can’t help but feel badly for Keely Mullen. I know, she’s asking for it by advocating such insanity and you’ve got to be ready to rumble when you go into the public square. But it’s hard to watch anyone get humiliated this badly and not want to just tell the referee to stop the fight....

Police said Sunday a positive DNA link has been established between the Jan. 20 abduction of a college student from a Reno home and a December sexual assault of another student who lived a few blocks away. At a late afternoon news conference, Reno police commander Ron Holladay said investigators think the same unidentified white male in his 30s is responsible for the earlier assault and last week's kidnapping of Brianna Denison, 19, from a friend's house near the University of Nevada, Reno campus. "Our chances of capturing the suspect are exponentially increased now because of the DNA," Holladay said....

I would just like to further introduce my blog to the scene. I welcome any advice or criticism, and thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I am a student at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. I am attracted to blogging about social conservative issues relating to DC and the Catholic Church, but I also write about St. Louis and Missouri politics when I'm feeling homesick--and anything else I think is worth my time and yours. Let me know what you think. Welcome to PP&P!

As anyone who knows me can verify I've often railed about people who refer to our government as a Democracy when it is a Republic. It seems that there is a movement, with all of the "each vote counts" hullabaloo and the calls for the removal of the Electoral College, to bring about actual Democracy in America, yet that too won't make a difference. Because, and I hate to burst the bubble of those desiring a Democracy, and it doesn't matter what form of government is in place, we all face a more deadly peril that needs to be taken...

<p>Specifically, 73 percent respond that the view of ethics most often transmitted was the politically correct "what is right and wrong depends on differences in individual values and cultural diversity," compared to a mere 25 percent who indicate "the copybook choice" that "there are clear and uniform standards of right and wrong by which everyone should be judged."</p>
