A 20-year-old college student from South Dakota fell to her death off Hawksbill Crag, a popular tourist spot in Arkansas, while posing for a photo.
Andrea Norton, of Hot Springs, S.D., was visiting the area on a school-related trip, Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler told the Springfield News-Leader on Saturday.
“She was here with a group from her college, and the professor that led the group has been coming here for more than 20 years and bringing groups here,” Wheeler told NBC affiliate KY3.
Norton was hiking with classmates from Sioux City, Iowa, when she slipped and fell off the 100-foot drop while positioning herself for a photo, Wheeler told the Associated Press.
It took 61 responders several hours to get to her, he said.

I saw a lot of people pose in risky positions when I was at the Grand Canyon. All I could think about was some sudden and expected wind knocking them over.
So very sad, so very foolish.

I can’t for the life of me imagine bringing a bunch of students there. Just wouldn’t want the liability—or for their idiocy, coupled with mine, bring them to any harm.
They could rename it “Darwin Overlook”.
Three people fell in just in the last three weeks alone.
I think I’d rather travel alone than with someone snapping photos every step of the way. Little more annoying IMO.

make it a regular Tourist Attraction.
It’s a beautiful spot. I can see why it attracts hikers.
This is just sad - and, are people now so unaware that all beautiful attractions will have to be fenced off? I was at Machu Picchu and saw a young lady prancing around with her back to the incredibly steep mountain, only a couple feet from the edge, all for the benefit of a selfie.
Idiots put responders in danger.
