    Washington Times ^ | Feb 27, 2017 | Jessica Chasmar
A faculty member at California State University, Fullerton has been suspended after striking a College Republicans member during a campus protest earlier this month. The altercation occurred Feb. 8 as pro-Palestine students and counter-protesters marched peacefully through campus. Anthropology part-time lecturer Eric Canin reportedly approached the group of counter-protesters — many of them being CSUF College Republicans members — and tried to rip a sign out of a student’s hand. Mr. Canin was accused of then striking another student who tried to step between them. The group’s president, Chris Boyle, said he witnessed the hit and proceeded to restrain Mr....

Police are investigating an incident where a lecturer at California State University, Fullerton, allegedly assaulted a student while the College Republicans club was counter-protesting a “No Ban No Wall” protest held by the school’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine. The description for the protest event mentioned that “a large population of students at CSUF have been attacked because of the identities they hold.” The agenda for the event included a protest, march around campus, and a group prayer led by the Muslim Student Association.

Author’s Note: The following is, unfortunately, a true story that took place this semester at the once-great (and once-conservative) Pepperdine University. No names have been changed to protect the guilty. They don’t deserve it. One Monday morning, just before the 2008 presidential election, a Pepperdine student (and College Republican, or CR) took a sign to the Office of Student Affairs. The sign read “Barack Obama socialism ‘08” in big letters, with “Socialism is bad. Do not vote Obama ’08. More info: CR meeting Weds 8pm, AC 245”. A young woman working in the office took out a stamp and approved...

CNN was forced to apologize Thursday after it aired an interview on American Morning with a University of Southern California student whom it identified as Eric Pearlmutter, a College Republican, who said that there was little enthusiastic support for Sen. John McCain's candidacy on campus. Following the broadcast Ben Myers, president of the USC College Republicans, shot back saying that he had never met or seen Pearlmutter at a College Republican meeting and that Pearlmutter is not even a member. "As far as I know, he could be a Democrat," Myers told the Los Angeles Times. On Thursday night a...

Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Al Franken didn't exactly leave 'em laughing in Northfield. Earlier this month Franken was at Carleton College, where the late Sen. Paul Wellstone was a professor, for a student rally related to a special election in the state Senate District 25. After the rally in the great space of Sayles-Hill some students crowded around to take photos with the "Saturday Night Live" alum. Franken's spokesman Andy Barr said via e-mail Tuesday that Al "remembers having a spirited convo w/ College GOPer at the urging of some of the kid's College Dem pals. Seemed like everyone...

  • Need Title/Ideas For a College Conservative Newspaper (VANITY!)

A group of us are in the works of putting together a Republican newspaper that will be distributed monthly to a few college campuses in Southern California and hopefully by mail too. We plan to give in-depth analyses according to a more conservative perspective normally repressed by our professors. It will be written by Republicans (to which we are not going to mask that fact (*cough*DanRather*cough*), but it won't be an "in your face, liberals suck" paper that is often published by the leftists on campuses ("conservatives suck" in these cases). Prduction will start next Fall quarter and will include:...

Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 The Right's New Wing Diverse and well funded, the next generation of conservatives is winning battles on campus. But not all are fighting for George W. Bush By JOHN CLOUD Earlier this month, a group of students met in Washington to bash George W. Bush, debate the power of multinational corporations and hear a speaker who denounced the Iraq war, the Patriot Act and stricter airport security. A leader of these college kids calls them "the new counterculture," but here's the thing: they aren't liberals. The 185 students were in Washington to attend the 26th annual...

It's not often that we hear inspirational news coming from America's college campuses. But this week at my home school, Republicans struck a blow for free speech. By coordinating talk radio, college activists and the conservative audience, California's College Republicans were able to overcome liberal obstructionism at the University of California at Los Angeles. Until March 19, the California College Republican Convention planned for April 2-4 was ready to move ahead as scheduled. About 400 students from around the state would converge at UCLA to coordinate their yearly campaign. The rooms were booked five months in advance. Provisions for payment...
