FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Maine College Republicans to Hold Annual State Convention in Portland

U.S. Senator Snowe, Colorado Governor Owens to Deliver Keynote Addresses

AUGUSTA - The Maine College Republicans will hold the organization’s annual State Convention on Saturday, April 8 from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM. The State Convention will be held at the Portland Club in Portland. U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe will deliver the event’s main keynote address at 10:30 AM. Colorado Governor Bill Owens, who successfully spearheaded the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) initiative in Colorado, will deliver a keynote address at 3:30 PM.

The theme of the 2006 State Convention is “Securing Our Future: Fulfilling History’s Challenge,” a reflection of the historic opportunity Maine College Republicans have in 2006 to play a pivotal grassroots role in achieving great Republican victories on Election Day.

In addition to scores of Maine College Republicans representing all corners of the Pine Tree State, numerous Maine Senators and Representatives, Republican State Committee members, and countless Republican activists are expected to attend the 2006 State Convention. Maine College Republican State Convention Delegates will be gathering to elect the 2006-2007 Maine College Republican Executive Board.

The 2006 State Convention speaker roster is a powerful testament to the high regard in which the Maine College Republicans are held by Maine’s Republican leadership. Confirmed speakers include Maine Republican Party Chairman Mark Ellis, Maine’s Republican Gubernatorial Candidates: Former U.S. Representative David Emery, Maine Senator Peter Mills and Maine Senator Chandler Woodcock, Maine’s Republican Congressional Candidates for the First and Second Congressional Districts, respectively: Maine Representative Darlene Curley and former Lisbon Selectman L. Scott D’Amboise, Maine Senate Republican Leader Paul Davis and Assistant Leader Carol Weston, and Maine House Republican Leader David Bowles and Assistant Leader Joshua Tardy.

“I am honored to be hosting the 2006 Maine College Republican State Convention in Portland this year,” said Nathaniel Walton (Bates ’08), Chairman of the Maine College Republicans. “This event is going to be a wonderful opportunity for our members to enjoy the company and appreciation of top Republican leaders,” Walton continued.

“Most importantly, the 2006 State Convention is going to be a fantastic opportunity for Maine College Republicans from Fort Kent to Wells to rally together as they prepare to make the historic grassroots difference that will result in great Republican victories on November 7,” Walton continued.

“Our members are more prepared than ever to do the hard work that will decisively reelect U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe and elect an entirely Republican Maine Congressional Delegation, as well as send a Republican to the Blaine House and elect a Republican Maine House and Senate,” Walton concluded.

Chairman Walton is available for interviews/further comments about the 2006 Maine College Republican State Convention. Walton can be reached by telephone at (207) 240-4549 or by e-mail at chairman@mainecr.org.

"Securing Our Future: Fulfilling History’s Challenge"- Huh? Which sophomore thought that string of platitudes up?

Olympia Snowe is a Republican? And, if she is, you actually think Maine Republicans can benefit from her RINO/DC advice???

I wish you luck and fear you'll need it.

Well, that'll double Portland's Republican population, briefly.
