In the wake of the Chattanooga shootings, in which five unnamed U.S. servicemen were murdered by a self-radicalized jihadist, U.S. Army Chief of Staff Ray Odierno suggested that allowing soldiers on base or at recruiting centers “could cause more problems than it solves.” With all due respect to his service and status, this is nonsense.

Expiration of the Assault Weapon Ban. The 1994 federal assault weapon ban is scheduled to expire Monday, September 13. Is this a good thing or bad thing? --Good thing. It was a phony political ban based on cosmetic features of weapons that had nothing to do with crime prevention. --Bad thing. Gun control measures like this are reasonable and necessary to make our streets safer. --No impact. Did nothing to reduce crime but, at the same time, was not an unreasonable curtailment of individuals' 2A rights
