Expiration of the Assault Weapon Ban. The 1994 federal assault weapon ban is scheduled to expire Monday, September 13. Is this a good thing or bad thing?
--Good thing. It was a phony political ban based on cosmetic features of weapons that had nothing to do with crime prevention.
--Bad thing. Gun control measures like this are reasonable and necessary to make our streets safer.
--No impact. Did nothing to reduce crime but, at the same time, was not an unreasonable curtailment of individuals' 2A rights
As the unknown Marine Capt said in WW1.
"I have no men on my left and few on my RIGHT. We are WINNING!"
We are KICKING THEIR A$$ES.
It was a phony political ban based on cosmetic features of weapons that had nothing to do with crime prevention - 85.2%
Done!
Now watch the thundering herd of gun owners NOT leap forward to buy semi-automatic Barrett M1982A's in .50 BMG.
A bunch of pistol owners might go out and buy some double-stacker mags for their Glocks and 1911's, otherwise, I see no "feeding frenzy" following from this. Maybe a brief spurt of orders for thread-on flash hiders or compensators, and maybe some paratrooper stocks for SKS's and AK's.
Otherwise, big woo.
Except we'll have Dianne Feinstein and Charlie Schumer and Slick off our backs. And all those Democrats who lost their offices in 1994 because of this bill, including a couple of powerful Texas Democrats, will wonder at the price of helping Slick Willie and his consort do anything.
