Neocon Bill Kristol is urging his Never Trump allies to “Stand with trans,” describing President Donald Trump’s criticism of transgender ideology as “unjust and dangerous.” In a post on X, Kristol — who left the Republican Party over the embrace of President Donald Trump — shared a link to an article written by Marc Solomon, a partner at Civitas Public Affairs Group. Solomon writes about supporting transgender Americans and calls for people to “stand with trans Americans.” “Stand with trans Americans,” Kristol wrote in his post on X. “You don’t have to understand everything about the transgender experience to know...

The NC Civitas Institute just held a Conservative Leadership Conference. The keynote speaker was Ben Carson. Carly Fiorina was also there. Plus many other well-known conservatives. It was a big success. I didn't know anything about this organization, just happened to hear about the conference on Rush. It was well worth the time and I wished I had put something on Free Republic earlier. I heard some of the organizers mention that next year they plan a much bigger conference. I don't know how large this one was, but I'd estimate about 300. James O'Keefe (Acorn killer) said he will...

On January 24th, a Civitas Media internal memo leaked to the new media describing the newspaper conglomerate's "attempt to build state-by-state databases that list those who have the right to carry a concealed weapon." Within 24 hours Civitas Media reversed course and now, on January 26th, says the idea never was going to happen to begin with. Buckeyefirearms.org first published the "internal propriety communication," which Civitas Media director of content Jim Lawitz "distributed to content editors, managers, and producers at [Civitas Media-owned] newspapers in 12 states." Lawitz initially refused comment once the communiqué became public. However, he eventually said "[they]...

By now, this story is old news to those involved in the on-going battle to preserve the Second Amendment. For those who are not, here's the story: A national newspaper chain with nearly 100 publications and 1.6 million readers is considering building “state-by-state databases” on concealed weapons permit holders, according to an internal e-mail. The plan, laid out in an email from a top editor at North Carolina-based Civitas Media, could be similar to a controversial project a New York state newspaper carried out in 2012 which included an online map that identified gun owners in two counties by name...

RALEIGH The executive director of the N.C. Democratic Party resigned Sunday as calls for his ouster mounted amid questions regarding a secret agreement to pay a former staffer to keep quiet about sexual harassment allegations. Jay Parmley, who served a year at the helm of the party, denied harassing any employee and blamed right-wing blogs for "spreading a false and misleading story" about the incident. "Even though I have not done anything wrong, it is clear to me that I need to move on," Parmley wrote in his resignation letter. Party Chairman David Parker accepted his resignation but avoided any...

Sen. John McCain of Arizona is the early 2008 presidential leader in North Carolina, according to a Civitas Institute poll. The institute conducted a telephone poll of 800 voters in the state.McCain was the leader among possible Republican candidates with 31 percent of those surveyed. Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards led the list of possible Democratic contenders with 24 percent of those surveyed.Civitas President Jack Hawke said, “Edwards’ figures may also be inflated by the fact that the poll was conducted among North Carolinians, as opposed to voters from across the nation. It is interesting that an Arizona senator...
