The government should have no say about marriage, and the plank in the Republican Party platform that calls for preserving marriage between a man and a woman should be scrapped, former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) told CNSNews.com. Furthermore, the U.S. military should not differentiate between homosexuals and heterosexuals, said Whitman. The former governor spoke Friday at the Log Cabin Republicans’ (LCR) 2009 convention and symposium in Washington, D.C. The Log Cabin Republicans are a group that seeks to promote homosexual and lesbian concerns within the GOP. In her speech, Whitman spoke about how inclusion can help the...

A Strategic Vision poll similarly registered a 54%-36% disapproval rating for the governor. Corzine also trails Christie in a head to head match-up, 47%-36%, although the governor leads Lonegon, 44%-39%. The...
  • Poll: Kean New Jersey's best governor; Whitman, McGreevey tie for worst

TRENTON, N.J. -- Former Gov. Thomas H. Kean handily topped the field as "best governor of New Jersey" in a statewide poll of registered voters, which also turned up a suprising response for worst governor _ a tie between James E. McGreevey and his predecessor, Christine Todd Whitman. McGreevey, chased from office last year by a gay sex scandal, and Whitman, who resigned to join the first term Cabinet of President Bush, both were named worst by 26 percent of those responding to Fairleigh Dickinson University's PublicMind Poll.

The Republican Party is being "dictated to by a coalition of ideological extremists," a former Bush administration Cabinet official says in a new book that blames President Bush and his top political strategist for failing to bring more "blue states" into the Republican column in November.     Christie Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey who resigned her post as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in May 2003, says Mr. Bush and adviser Karl Rove were wrong in their strategy of boosting turnout among the party's voting base of political "extremists" on the right, including evangelical Christians. In...
