The Obama administration is spending $69.7 million to expand its Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program, which sends nurses and social workers into the homes of families to improve maternal and child health, child development, school readiness, economic self-sufficiency, and child abuse prevention. The grants, funded by the Affordable Care Act, are going to 13 states that have implemented "high-quality" home visiting programs. “These awards support states in their efforts to expand and improve home visiting support services for our most vulnerable children and families,” Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in announcing the awards, which...

A gunman opened fire on a Jewish school in southern France Monday, killing four people -- the third shooting in the area in 10 days. The shooting in the city of Toulouse left a teacher and three children dead, including a 3-year-old, said local prosecutor Michel Valet. A fourth child was injured. The gunman arrived shortly after 8 a.m. and fled on a motor scooter after the shootings. He is believed to have used two different guns, interior ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said. "It's a horrible tragedy," Brandet said on CNN affiliate BFM. It's the third shooting by a man...

The outside legal expert hired by ACORN is declaring no laws were broken by workers caught in those infamous videos offering advice to a phony pimp and hooker. Former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger wrote in the report: “While some of the advice and counsel given by ACORN employees and volunteers was clearly inappropriate and unprofessional, we did not find a pattern of intentional, illegal conduct by ACORN staff; in fact, there is no evidence that action, illegal or otherwise, was taken by any ACORN employee on behalf of the videographers.” ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis, predictably, was pleased with the...

She isn’t the President’s daughter, they just have the same name. She isn’t Obama’s daughter, they are just the same age. She doesn’t go to Sidwell Friends School, she sits at a little desk in a hut in Kabul. But next year, the Americans will be gone, the Taliban will be back, so she won’t go to school anymore. The mullah will come to look at her. They will give her to one of the old men with a beard, and she will go home with him, home to cook for him, home to wash his clothes and fetch his...
  • Children Still at Risk From Liberal Agenda

In 1990 I co-authored "Children at Risk," a book exposing the cultural forces in education that endanger our children and showing parents what they can do to defend their families against an ever-encroaching liberal agenda. Sixteen years on and things have scarcely improved. In fact, judging from some recent developments, it's become clear our children are at greater risk than ever from an education establishment gone wild. Earlier this month a Colorado high school geography teacher was put on administrative leave for comparing President Bush's State of the Union address to speeches made by Adolf Hitler. After a week soaking...
