The media gave big headlines to this week's stories on a prestigious British medical publication's retraction of an article that had claimed to show a causal link between standard childhood vaccinations (measles, mumps and rubella) and autism. Yet the coverage of the Lancet affair didn't truly convey the outrageousness of the original publication or the gravity of its consequences -- consequences long festering, since the paper was published not last week but 12 years ago. Many of us in the scientific community recognized the "study" as junk when it appeared in 1998. Even before we learned of then-unknown ethical failings...

Even before her first birthday, Jashaia Trinity Small startled more easily than other children exposed to loud noises. Once an ambitious walker, she began to fall more often and needed support to stand up. She blinked repeatedly, "and when you called her, she had to look around the room to see where you were," her mother, Nadine Green-Small recalls."By the time she was a year and a half, I knew something was really not right," Green-Small said. Last fall, Jashaia Small was diagnosed with Tay-Sachs disease, a genetic disorder most often diagnosed in eastern European Jews and only rarely in...

http://www.rettsyndrome.org/ My daughter Gabriella was diagnosed with Rett syndrome today. The two links explain what it is technically better than I can. The symptoms are regressive. They begin rapidly regressing at age 2 my daughter is 20 months. After regression their is little to no motor skills and communication along with severe retardation. This all seems to be caused by lack of a protein called mecp2. They are beginning to experiment on mice. Knowing the FDA that means many years till treatment comes out. Can anyone answer these questions. Is it true that protein we eat is broken down into...

US experts back MMR doctor's findings (Filed: 23/06/2002) The man whose research first raised concern over the vaccine's safety is winning support. Lorraine Fraser reports from an influential Congressional hearing. Scientists in America have reported the first independent corroboration of the research findings of Dr Andrew Wakefield, the specialist who has questioned the safety of the childhood MMR vaccine. Dr Arthur Krigsman, from New York University School of Medicine, has observed serious intestinal inflammation in autistic children identical to that described by the controversial British doctor and his colleagues in a research paper four years ago. Dr Krigsman's discovery is...
