  • The Super Bowl Ad Report Card...The best and worst commercials of 2015.

After a year full of discord and #outrage, Super Bowl advertisers went waaay somber. It’s as if they hoped to gently heal us, to spur reflection, to encourage us all to just, like, coexist with each other and consider each other’s struggles. Over the course of the night, there appeared dead children. Absent fathers. People forced to work during the Super Bowl instead of watching the game. There was Jeff Bridges helping us to conquer our nighttime anxieties. Frankly, the whole thing was sort of a bummer. I’m all in favor of marketers evolving beyond the farting animals and contused...
  • Am I the only one annoyed by the hectoring pro"women" Super Bowl "commercials?"

Am I the only person watching this "football game" (which is actually a good football game) annoyed by these annoying lectures, masquerading as commercials, about how powerful, capable, independent and valuable women are, so we barbaric men shouldn't devalue them, disrespect them (not actually a word) or hit them? Is this really what we need to be told while we're trying to just watch a ball game? I know the rest of the culture insists on this, but aren't men the primary clientele of the NFL? Why does the NFL have to subject us to this nonsense?

The obesity epidemic in men could be fueled by the female sex hormone estrogen, scientists claim. Experts believe the hormone could also be causing the well-documented drop in sperm count among Western men. They said men in affluent countries are becoming “feminized” as they come into contact with products containing the female sex hormone. Compounds found in some plastic items, including drain pipes, and soy food products can mimic the effects of estrogen, scientists said. Secreted by the ovaries in premenstrual women, estrogen is known to cause weight gain, inhibiting the thyroid gland and affecting other areas of the brain....

Sacramento -- Schools in California that have football programs will be forced to limit the number of days and hours young athletes can practice tackling and other full-contact collisions as a way to prevent head injuries, according to a bill signed Monday by Gov. Jerry Brown. The new law, which goes into effect Jan. 1, restricts full-contact practices to two 90-minute sessions per week during the regular and pre- season, and prohibits tackling during the off-season. "Football is a great sport, but parents want to know if their kids are going to be safe," said Assemblyman Ken Cooley (D-Rancho Cordova),...

On a clear day in Laguna Niguel, California, Anthony Franco and Shawna Stewart stood together at the altar, surrounded by 40 family members and friends. It was a traditional ceremony: The two Colorado natives smiled in a sea of purple and white, Franco’s lilac tie matching the strapless dresses of Stewart’s five bridesmaids. Sunlight bounced off of the round brilliant-cut diamond on her left hand. But one small detail set their ceremony apart from others. When the time came to exchange wedding bands with one another, Franco was already wearing a ring.

The Army is ordering its hardened combat veterans to wear fake breasts and empathy bellies so they can better understand how pregnant soldiers feel during physical training. This week, 14 noncommissioned officers at Camp Zama took turns wearing the “pregnancy simulators” as they stretched, twisted and exercised during a three-day class that teaches them to serve as fitness instructors for pregnant soldiers and new mothers. Army enlisted leaders all over the world are being ordered to take the Pregnancy Postpartum Physical Training Exercise Leaders Course, or PPPT, according to U.S. Army Medical Activity Japan health promotion educator Jana York. Developed...
  • Steeler Fans Put Their Money Where Their Mouth is for James Harrison

In what might be a first, Steeler Fans angered at the $75,000 fine handed out by the NFL to James Harrison are trying to help him pay that fine. It started with the Facebook page here which encouraged fans to send a dollar to the NFL Commissioner to be credited towards the fine. I have been monitoring the site and the media coverage, and it seems that the NFL will be receiving at least several thousand dollars in the mail over the next few days. I think this is of note because of the activism component, the speed of which...
  • Radical feminism's attack on manhood in America

Over the years, radical feminism has been attempting to demonize any display of testosterone. The slightest aggressive behavior is taken to the ultimate extreme portraying males as abusers. Their goal clearly is to wimpify maleness. When I was serving on the board of our local YMCA, a national touring team of Christian strong men/bodybuilders wanted to make a presentation to our youths. Through various exciting well-choreographed displays of strength (chopping through cinder blocks with their bare hands and etc.) the ministers taught kids Christian values and principles. Our female chairperson of the board rejected their proposal. She said their display...

President Barack Obama signed an executive order earlier this month requiring federal agencies to set a 2020 greenhouse gas emission reduction target within 90 days – and he followed up by asking “our brave men and women in uniform” and government employees to compete in the GreenGov Challenge. “As the largest consumer of energy in the U.S. economy, the federal government can and should lead by example when it comes to creating innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, conserve water, reduce waste, and use environmentally responsible products and technologies,” Obama said when he signed the order...
