Preparing a bowl of chicken soup for a loved one when they’re sick has been a common practice throughout the world for centuries. Today, generations from virtually every culture swear to the benefits of chicken soup. In the U.S., the dish is typically made with noodles, but different cultures prepare the soothing remedy their own way. Chicken soup as a therapy can be traced back to 60 A.D. and Pedanius Dioscorides, an army surgeon who served under the Roman emperor Nero, and whose five-volume medical encyclopedia was consulted by early healers for more than a millennium. But the origins of...

Do you remember being ill as a child and being given a soothing bowl of hot chicken soup to help you feel better? Sick or not, most Malaysians would have grown up drinking Grandma’s homemade soup that often would have more bone in it than meat. The recipe would almost always be the same: hot water, bone, vegetables – usually cabbage or carrot – and a variety of herbs and spices, left on the stove to bubble away for hours. Sometimes, it would be kept overnight and reboiled the next day – only to taste so much better! This time-honoured...

Went to my bank 2 weeks ago. In their new list posted of days closed in 2022 they had Indigenous Peoples Day, I told them how insulted I was by this naming and the Least they could do is have both names on the day. The manager was surprised. And last week they changed it. Said I was the only person to complain. But I made sense. So Kick Up a Fuss!

U.S.—Supermarkets nationwide are no longer selling chicken noodle soup in an attempt to combat COVID-19 self-medication with unauthorized treatments. Medical experts have grown concerned by a recent trend in the infected to self-medicate with the popular soup to feel better. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed a mandate to limit chicken noodle soup was recommended by the CDC. “As in the case of Ivermectin, a known horse de-wormer, many people were attempting to self-medicate with a hot bowl of soup. This is giving people a false sense of security and leading to violent overdoses in which belching and nausea...

The universal feel-good elixir expresses itself deliciously from culture to culture. It’s rare that a dish appears in cuisines all over the world. Chicken soup — the global feel-better elixir — is one of them. Soothing and comforting at a time when so many Americans are ailing from a pandemic or smarting from bruising political battles, it is this season’s perfect panacea. Chicken soup can celebrate what so many of us have in common: When someone sniffles, moms and grandmas (and increasingly pops and grandpas) around the globe drop chicken in water with aromatics and simmer away. At the same...

President Donald Trump has several strikes against him — age, obesity, elevated cholesterol and being male — that could put him at greater risk of becoming seriously ill from the coronavirus infection he disclosed late Thursday. Trump and first lady Melania Trump, who also tested positive, “are both well at this time” and plan to remain at the White House while recovering and being closely monitored, according to a statement from his physician, Dr. Sean Conley. A White House official said Friday that Trump was having mild symptoms.

This is the 20th anniversary of my years at FreeRepublic. I joined on November 9, 1998. I found a home here and have enjoyed my almost daily visits. Some of the most fascinating people have passed through the FR portal and the beautiful format allowed for sustained conversation and deep education of this fledgling conservative. FR also has provided much support and guidance through the talents and knowledge and kindnesses of its members. Tied down with four children to support, homeschool, and raise, singlehandedly, I was never able to make any of the events and was sad not to attend...

Sarah was in the fertilized egg business. She had several hundred young pullets and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs. She kept records and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so she bought some tiny bells and attached them to her roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so she could tell from a distance which rooster was performing. Now, she could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report just by listening to the bells. Sarah's favorite rooster, old Butch, was a fine specimen but...

Ok I have some offers for SUVs. I have taken Jeeps off the books because I dont have a large financial margin of error. FJ cruiser prices are coming in. I also have offers on 2006 Xterras and am looking at something called the factory invoice. Shouldnt I pay less than that? What the heck does a factory invoice have to do with reality? I have always understood that it was what the car would normally cost before the incentives and rebates that the factory gives the dealer. So how does one negotiate?

Seventy-five percent of those aged 45 to 64 and 64% of those 65 or older agree. Only 15% to 22% of the respondents say that...

N.J. Man's Soup Sparks Cannibalism Probe Fri Mar 19, 5:16 PM ET PARSIPPANY, N.J. - Victor Salazar went to the hospital with back pain and had an X-ray that raised questions about his diet, not his spine. When a doctor asked if he had eaten any bones, Salazar said no, forgetting about the soup he had the day before that included pieces of chicken feet. He left, but radiologists and the Morris County medical examiner wondered if the film showed bits of finger bones. A police investigation began. Newark homicide investigators went to Salazar's home in Newark on Thursday, and...

About ten years ago the first of the Chicken Soup For The Soul books were published down here in South Florida. It turned out to be a publishing sensation with scores of Chicken Soup For The Soul books subsequently published. Anyway, today I had what I thought was a brainstorm---A book called Chicken Soup For The Writer's Soul. Well, I outlined the book in my mind and thought I had some terrific ideas. Then when I got home, I checked the web and, alas, there is ALREADY a Chicken Soup For The Writer's Soul. Anyway, I am just curious. What...
