SACRAMENTO — Sarah Palin typically generates controversy with what she says. Now the former vice presidential candidate is creating a buzz over how much she'll make at a black-tie gala she plans to headline at Cal State Stanislaus. How much she is commanding for her June 25 appearance at the $500-per-ticket affair won't be known because her contract with the CSU Stanislaus Foundation stipulates secrecy. It's the secrecy that rankles state Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, who is calling for full disclosure. "The CSU should immediately disclose how much money is being diverted from students to pay Sarah Palin's exorbitant...

A Pardeeville man was issued a citation for disorderly conduct Wednesday after allegedly forcing his 7-year-old son to wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the divisional playoff game last weekend. Matthew Kowald, 36, pleaded no contest Wednesday to disorderly conduct after he was released from the Columbia County Jail. He received a fine of $186. Columbia County District Attorney Jane Kohlwey said there was not enough evidence against Kowald to support felony charges. The Columbia County Sheriff's Department said the boy refused to wear a Packers jersey during the Green Bay game against Seattle, so Kowald restrained him with...

This is the photo the Chicago Libune chose to run on the front page of the paper this morning. Of all the thousands of photos, the Libune chooses this piece of backslapping to Clinton. A better photo would have been the actual mug shot that the AP has on file. I looked for the photo of Clinton and Parks and I found quite a pool to from which to make my choice. I do not believe this photo was printed innocently. I wonder how many more papers ran this photo.

Wisconsin's Democratic governor thinks it's not fair that tangible items get taxed while downloads, like music, ebooks, software, etc., go completely untaxed. So, he proposes to rectify the situation by having Wisconsin's 5% state sales tax apply to Internet downloads. This is kind of like that famous hoax about how the USPS wants to charge people 5 cents for e-mail messages, except it's for real. What a dumb idea....

  • If this gets around Kerry's lost Wisconsin

The Battle for Wisconsin by Stephen F. Hayes 09/06/2004, Volume 009, Issue 48 Green Bay JOHN KERRY may have lost Wisconsin last Wednesday. Lambeau Field is arguably the most historic sporting venue in the United States. Opposing players long for the opportunity to play there. It's the Mecca of American football. Every American male over the age of 4 can finish the description of the field made famous by the pseudo-thunderous voice of ESPN's Chris Berman: "The Frooooooozen Tunnnnnnnndra of . . . " Lambert Field? That's what John Kerry called it during a stop last week in Green Bay....
