The Republican Party has long been divided on allowing the importation of cheaper prescription drugs from Canada, a policy proposal President Joe Biden revived in a sweeping executive order after the Trump administration's similar efforts fizzled in 2020.... ...The Trump administration’s vision for legal prescription drug importation from Canada did not materialize, despite enthusiasm from Trump and his ally, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has pushed for prescription drug importation as a fix to high drug costs for years. In 2019, the Trump administration first proposed to import inexpensive drugs from Canada, where prescription drugs are cheaper because the government...

TAMPA - A Seminole Heights man accused of giving illegal ``date rape'' party drugs to other men and then sexually assaulting them pleaded not guilty Wednesday and remains in jail with no bail set. Steven Lorenzo, 45, formerly of 213 W. Powhatan Ave., waived his right to appear in U.S. District Court, and a not- guilty plea was entered on his behalf. At the same time, documents show, a seventh person was added to the list of men Lorenzo is accused of sexually attacking between 2000 and 2003. Authorities also are investigating whether Lorenzo is connected to the Dec. 20,...

When Congress passed landmark Medicare reforms last year, critics opposed a provision banning Americans from buying "Canadian" prescription drugs and a study of the safety and cost benefits of cross border purchasing was mandated in the legislation. For several years, healthcare policy analysts and health safety experts have produced a cacophony of powerful objections to importation based on worries about safety and pricing. Now adding to the din of serious concern comes this study from the Department of Health and Human Services produced by a respected, international expert panel that not only highlights the dangers of importation, but is likely...

Drug Costs: Americans have been told — by the Kerry campaign, among others — that they could buy plenty of cheap medicine from Canada if their government would just let them. But here's a dose of reality. Canadian Internet pharmacies, it turns out, aren't keen on the idea of selling large volumes of prescription drugs to Americans at Canadian prices. More than 30 of these businesses now say they will not accept bulk orders for drugs from American states or local governments. "We can't be your complete drugstore," says David Mackay, chief executive of the Canadian International Pharmacy Association. And...
  • Why do so many people want to buy prescription drugs from Canada?

I've noticed on a number of other forums that people are upset because they are not able to buy their prescription drugs from Canada. This of course, is blamed on Bush and more recently a ban that Jeb Bush made on purchase of Canadian drugs from internet sites. This is becoming a heated issue, especially in Florida, since Kerry is promising access to Canadian drugs. I've searched the internet and found little information as to why the same drugs are cheaper in Canada (other than the usual rants of drug company price-gouging.) I would appreciate any comments/insight from FReepers on...

SACRAMENTO — For six months, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has managed to keep his position unknown on a host of potentially divisive issues. Now he is going to have to start filling in the blanks. After acceding repeatedly to a Republican governor determined to deliver on campaign promises, the Democrats who control the state Senate and Assembly this week approved a number of measures that likely will force the governor to make some difficult choices. The Assembly endorsed raising the minimum wage to $7.75, a 15% increase. If the more liberal Senate concurs, as expected, the governor will have to choose...
