A research team brings together experts in an effort to discover exactly what is ailing the sickest long COVID patients and find treatments for them. The team reports that a disproportionate number of people affected—nearly 70%—are female and face debilitating symptoms that are identical to chronic fatigue syndrome, now referred to as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome or ME/CFS. Blood samples show telltale amino acid deficiencies, suggesting readily available supplements have potential as therapy. According to Lord Christopher Monckton, Thomas R. Karl's much-feted paper refuting "the Pause," the inexplicable 19-year standstill in the earth's average global surface temperature, has a small problem: To disappear the warming hiatus as Karl and his co-authors purport to do, you have to repeal the laws of thermodynamics. (Not even the current president can do that.) Karl and his colleagues, whose work appeared in the June issue of Science, "updated" previous data sets used to assess changes in surface temperatures, which supporters maintain is merely Science being self-critical and Scientific. A good night's sleep may be just what your arteries need. So finds a new five-year study in which middle-aged people who had an extra hour of sleep each night were less likely to have artery-stiffening calcium deposits. Lauderdale and her colleagues have been following a group of young adults for years, studying their heart arteries from a number of angles. The latest report linked the sleeping habits of 495 participants, ages 35 to 47, with the incidence of artery calcification, measured by CT scans. Calcium deposits can make the coronary arteries less flexible and ultimately lead to heart disease....
