Police are hunting for a trio of women accused of robbing at least two taxi drivers at gunpoint in Manhattan and the Bronx. The first incident occurred just after 1 a.m. on Nov. 20, when a 60-year-old cabbie got into an argument with the three women, who were passengers in his taxi, on Lexington Avenue near East 42nd Street, the NYPD said. The suspects pulled a gun on the driver and snatched his cellphone — before jumping out of the car and running off into the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station, according to police.

People have written me for years about how NYC Muslim cabbies shut down these streets and police do nothing. Under both de Blasio and Bloomberg as well. But if you jaywalk, deBlasio sics the cops on you. I have been reporting on this repeatedly: NYC Traffic Snarled By Muslim Cabbies Stopping To Pray Finally. Equality for all before the law. But that’s not how Muslims see it — it is seen through their supremacist prism: “I can’t help but to think they are being prejudiced. They don’t understand. We have to be here.” Uh, no, you have to obey the...

NEW YORK - A federal judge refused Friday to block a new city rule that requires taxi drivers to install global positioning systems and credit card machines in their cabs by Monday. The drivers argue that the city overstepped its authority and acted unconstitutionally when it mandated the units. Their lawsuit also claims GPS will give away trade secrets by disclosing the cabbies' driving patterns, which they say give them a competitive edge. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman refused to block the rule from taking effect, saying the use of the technology to improve taxi service appeared to outweigh...

A search warrant filed in Hennepin County connects a shooting investigation to a possible terror plot. According to court documents, four Somali teenage males were riding in a cab on June 24 the same night a man was shot in the chest around 9:00 p.m. Video surveillance at the Glendale Housing Projects captured the cab fleeing near the scene of the shooting. Police were able to identify the taxicab and located the vehicle at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport four days later. Inside the cab, police found a handwritten note describing acts of terrorism and bombings. Police questioned an 18-year-old relative...

The Kansas City International Airport has added several foot-washing basins in restrooms to accommodate a growing number of Muslim taxicab drivers who requested the facilities to prepare for daily Islamic prayer, WND has learned. The move concerns airport police who worry about Middle Eastern men loitering inside the building. After 9/11, the airport beefed up its police force to help prevent terrorist attacks. "Why are we constructing places of worship for them inside our airports?" said an airport official who requested anonymity. "Why are we catering to their rituals? We don't do it for any other religion." Other major airports...

The operator of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Monday approved tougher penalties for cabdrivers who refuse service to travelers carrying alcohol, as some Muslim drivers have done for religious reasons. The Metropolitan Airports Commission voted to suspend a driver's airport taxi license for 30 days for the first offense and revoke it for two years for a second offense. The new penalties take effect May 11. Airport officials say more than 70 percent of the cabbies at the airport are Muslim, and many of them claim Islamic law prohibits them from giving rides to people carrying alcohol. Under the...

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani announced an undercover sting operation yesterday that will take away the cabs of drivers who refuse to pick up minority passengers. His decision came less than a week after the actor Danny Glover complained that several New York taxi drivers had refused to pick him up because he is black. The operation, also aimed at cabbies who refuse to take passengers to places they want to go, usually minority neighborhoods, is to begin tomorrow at 7 a.m. with 150 police officers and taxi inspectors. ''We are perfectly entitled to do this,'' Mr. Giuliani said at a...

I’m not going to carry alcohol,” Abdi Mohamed, a driver for Bloomington Cab, told a Metropolitan Airports Commission panel that gathered to hear public opinion on the proposals. Should the airport impose tougher penalties on taxi drivers who refuse to pick up alcohol-toting passengers? That's the question at hand during a Metropolitan Airports Commission public hearing today. One of the people who spoke against the harsher penalties for taxi drivers was Hassan Mohamud, imam of a St. Paul mosque and president of theSomali Institute for Peace and Justice. He said there is no Islamic prohibition on helping the blind with their dogs, but alcohol is a different matter. "The question is whether there is reasonable religious accommodation for these people (drivers)," Hassan Mohamud said, adding that the proposed...

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport wants to crack down on Muslim taxi drivers who refuse to carry alcohol or service dogs in their cabs. At a meeting Wednesday of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, airport staff asked the commission to give the go-ahead for public hearings on a tougher policy that would suspend the licenses of drivers who refuse service for any reason other than safety concerns. Drivers who refuse to accept passengers transporting alcohol or service dogs would have their airport licenses suspended 30 days for the first offense and two years for the second offense, according to a revised taxi...

SEATTLE (Dec. 9) - The King could be your cabbie under the city's new taxi driver dress code. The City Council voted Monday to approve legislation that would allow drivers to sport rhinestone capes, blue suede shoes or whatever other appropriate costume they wish. "Uh, a-thank you verrah much," cabbie Dave Groh, an Elvis Presley impersonator, said after the vote. It was Groh's case that prompted the change to the city's 1997 taxi dress code. Adopting an Elvis look after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in hopes of bringing some levity to the city, Groh pleased many passengers, but...

Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said cabbies who took advantage of the country's visitors were the "new enemies... the same as Communists". "I am not joking, This is a serious matter. If they can be shot, all the better," he was quoted as saying by the Malay-language Berita Harian newspaper. The minister was commenting on a report that about 70% of taxi drivers in the capital, Kuala Lumpur, would cheat tourists by using different meters or driving on long...
