  • The Meaning of ‘Occupy Wall Street.’ The Confusion on the Left and the Right

    10/08/2011 10:43:05 AM PDT · 12 of 18
    WisemanRAX to Kaslin

I think the perception of Wall Street is just the banks that received tax payer money, didn’t really say what they were going to use it for and we just kind of left it alone trusting them. It didn’t really do anything for the economy, and those 20 somethings that come out of university, with experience gained through internships as well as part time jobs are not able to get full time jobs to make ends meet. So the perception is, the big boys got bailed with no questions asked and everyone else can pretty much go screw themselves. The software engineer with the Apple computer is not being a hypocrite because Apple did not cause the financial problems we are having today.

It’s not really a movement against corporations, it’s more about accountability of the people in charge of those corporations that caused the problems in the first place. If the leaders of the banks screw up, then let them fail, don’t use tax payer money to somehow breathe new life into them. Instead, that TARP money was used to pay bonuses to people who were responsible for the current problems we have. Yes this movement does attract the fringe but you’ll see many more of these 20 somethings, freshly unemployed, who see no end in sight while sending out endless amounts of resumes. I mean at some point people give up. I know a few who have.

I bummed around looking for a job for 6 months after getting my Masters in Biotechnology from University of Pennsylvania. I am truly lucky that I found one in this shitty economy. So please don’t paint all of these 20 somethings as a bunch of lazy people with no focus. They’re placed in a precarious situation with no hope in sight.

I don’t think it has anything to do with being patriotic on her part. I mean from her point of view it is just some random guy. However, good old Justin convinced her. It will definitely be an experience for her. She may become a bit more patriotic after her interaction with the Marines and their wives at the Marine Corps Ball....or maybe not. We will find out after Novemember!

I know that freedom doesn’t fall from the sky but I would like to point out that when polling, sample size is very important because if you poll 12 people, it’s not really significant. However, if you poll 12000, well that would be a great statistics and you can make an assumption from that. It’s not worshipping math, but just using it to say something about the world. This is the problem with polls, they never give sample sizes since they know that once people see how many in total were polled, people might become skeptical.

As far statements from rioters, it does not mean much to me as news sources (whether right or left) can selectively take out statements to form an opinion that they would like to hear and others to believe. Constantly saying that a significant amount of Egyptians hate us is not going to help your case.

Also I made a mistake when I replied to Allegra in my first post, the reply was meant towards TruthConquers.

Muslims are people like us but most who fight against us don’t understand what it means for them to be Muslim, they are constantly bombarded with propaganda about hating anything Western by clerics with an agenda that molds the minds of these people. Unfortunately, that is the way it is.

You need to understand that showing percentages means nothing in poll. We need to know how many people were polled in order for it to be statistically significant. For instance if a clinical trial of a drug for a disease was conducted on 10 patients and 8 of them were cured can you really then say that this drug will help 80% of the time people use it? You should take statistics.

I don’t remember that. He definitely used a Blackberry. Like I said, his speeches are most likely written by the staff ( who have free time ). As a president of the United States, Republican or Democrat, you have things to do and those don’t include watching MTV and caring about who Snooki is. I also don’t think he bothered to ask who she was because he didn’t care and probably didn’t think it was going to be such an issue. However, it became an issue to E! and to Nicole because she believes that she is important enough to be recognized for her um...yeah nothing really to be honest.

If he did know about Snooki, then people would react by saying “WTF is this guy doing watching MTV when he should be running the country”. Honestly guys, it was probably his speech writers that threw in the bit about Snooki to make Obama sound funny and cool. You don’t expect any President of the US to keep up with the TV shows.

Chelsea worked at McKinsey and Company, a very respected consulting firm in the world. I think that her experience there got her into the hedge fund business. If she held an associate position there, she may have interacted with clients that liked her which may have gotten her a job at the hedge fund.

I don’t know if McKinsey and Company would compromise their rigorous selection process for her. I mean you can’t really bullshit the cases they give or the analytical exams they give, no matter where you are from.

That would be a really bad rep for them and the individuals that attempted to get in to this highly selective firm.

I gotta say I’m gettin tired of this. This is not some politically inspired thing I’m about to say but it’s just that if our President feels that serving in the Armed Forces is such a noble calling, then why isn’t he encouraging his progeny to do the same? I mean look at what upper echelon of British society gave. Two princes that are commissioned officers. Another thing is, the few individuals that have signed up, will not find a good job after the Army due to them being behind their civilian peers in terms of experience. Think about it, there aren’t many civilian job recruiters or any in upper management (Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Lockheed, IBM, and etc)that understand what leadership attained in the Army is and how it transfers to the civilian world because they have not served themselves. Although their service might be appreciated by someone, it won’t really help them get a good job, further education might.

I'm saying that if people in Bush's administration were responsible for exposing her with either intention or unintentionally, then they should have their clearances removed and be removed from public service, period. There is no excuse for divulging secrets. What is going to happen to her contacts that she made while in her service? Gen Hayden even clarified that she is covert. Look at this link and start listening at 42:10 and hear what Rep. Elijah Cummings says to her in the 1st link.

Basically, you can go up to Langley, VA and tell the head of CIA that he knows nothing and that you know more than him. I want somebody to do that, oh please someone do it. That would make my day.

The fact is, her identity was exposed. If she is lying about her status, she would be in Federal Prison right now. She already put facts on the record. How many of you on here actually ever held a security clearance and know the repercussion of sharing Secret and Top Secret material to the public, which in this case meant the exposing of a CIA officer.

I was enlisted as an 11B and I'm going to be commissioned soon as a Transportation officer. I call bullshit on your last comment. Do you know that his service has been discussed by people who have been in various Armed Forces. Freaking SF personnel units have discussed him. They all don't question his service. You and I both know that if that comment was true, this would have caused a shit storm. This would have been investigated to the full end. He earned those medals fair and square. His father had nothing to do with it. You can ask his CO that recommended him to be awarded. It sucks that you are shitting on your own brethren. I wasn't even born in this country and it sucks that people are the same everywhere.

I've lloked at those website in question and looks to me like they're just there because they have differences in political opinion and would like to shit on his military record just because of that. I never said he was a hero, but they don't give those Bronze and Silver Stars like candy. I just said you can't call him cowardly. Especially by people here who haven't served. Being here long enough I've noticed that very few members of this site actually served and yet they comment on things they don't understand, but then again it's a free country and anyone can talk shit about anyone. I don't care if his father was an Admiral. I told you that he was offered to get released early and he refused. I bet you also think that the prisoners who were with him including a current Senator thought he was an s-bag.

I don't understand how some people can call him cowardly. He is of the last of dying breed of Senators in the US that have served in the Armed Forces unlike Cheney who "had other things to do". This individual has been through a lot of hell as a POW in Vietnam for 5 years. He was tortured endlessly but he refused to sign traitorous confessions. He was even given an opportunity to be exchanged and let go but he refused and decided to stay with his buddies. That says a lot about character. How many of you can attest to that kind of courage. He received the Silver and Bronze Star which are the 3rd and 4th highest honors in this country. This is one individual who knows what it's like to be an assymetrical war, the same kind of war that was Vietnam. as far as temper problems goes? Well shit man, you think that experience as a POW didn't scar him for life?
