Postal contractor Midwest Transport Inc. is winding down...

An Illinois-based trucking and logistics company, which contracted with the U.S. Postal Service to haul mail has notified over 650 employees, including more than 480 drivers, that the carrier is ceasing operations

...

Former truck drivers for Midwest Transport Inc. (MTI), headquartered in Robinson, Illinois, told FreightWaves that they received telephone calls from their regional managers late Thursday notifying them the company was winding down operations.

...

According to an email sent to MTI employees and drivers about the closing late Friday, which was obtained by FreightWaves, the company stated that postal operations “will complete all trips through the trips that begin on Sunday, September 8. Freight operations should be following the instructions from your load planners on returning. Terminal and office personnel will receive information and updates from your managers as we progress through this transition.”

MTI, founded in 1980, operated key terminals in Greenup, Illinois; Harmony, Pennsylvania; Memphis, Tennessee; and two terminals in Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida...

MTI had over 480 drivers and 428 power units..

One longtime former MTI driver said he was surprised by the news the company was ceasing operations but said that drivers had started receiving notices over the past few months to ensure their log books were certified after each run and to watch their speed and improve their on-time performance.

“I don’t know what happened because we had a lot of postal contracts all over the U.S.,” a former MTI driver told FreightWaves. “I [don’t know if] the USPS is just finding out like us [that] the mail will be sitting on the docks on Monday.”

USPS only wants Chinese drivers handling those fake pre printed ballots.

USPS just figured out that the old Biden ballots would not work—so they can stop shipping them.

Well the USPS has come out over the last month stating they were slowing the mail down, a letter that used to take 3-4 days will now take 2 weeks for delivery.

The heat was on to oust them from their contract by the feds. They finally did it. Why else would they be so concerned about log books and traffic violations? Somebody put a target on them for some reason.

I used to live in Robinson. About 6k people live in that area. This closure will be a big hit to the town. Only Marathon refinery and Hershey chocolate factory are the two big employers left.

My son-in-law works for a logistics company in the Chicago area. Pretty sure it’s not his company. Maybe they’ll get more business from this.

Wonder how many of those employees prime duty was filling out forms and collecting data to comply with government regulations. There must be at least a dozen state and federal agencies that endlessly write and constantly revise regulations for the trucking industry. They suck the productive life out of most companies until they die.

I know a couple of 3rd party carrier contractors and the requirements demanded by the USPS have become too expensive and ridiculous to comply with. To get the contract you have to basically hand control of all company operations over to them. They literally take ownership of your company. They dictate hiring practices, employee relations, vehicle years and types, Etc. It is no longer your private company. So this is just the beginning, A whole lot of private 3rd party contractors are going to quit soon. They have over-regulated them right out of business. The problem is, the USPS doesn’t have the assets and resources to replace these private contractors. So a whole lot of people are going to lose their delivery, especially rural routes.

Some Democrat-connected outfit (probably located in Chicago) will likely get the contract.

https://bizfluent.com/how-6960693-bid-postal-contract.html#google_vignette

The USPS has more than 17,000 highway contract groups, and it is the largest contract section in the whole organization. These contractors range from long-haul tractor trailers to small vans operating near tiny local post offices. To land post office contracts bids in the highway sector whether you are a large corporation or an independent contractor, you must meet the following requirements:

Evidence would suggest that the company lost the contract for some reason.

At least they didn’t do like Arrow and simply cancel all the fuel cards for their fleet and leave their drivers stranded. When the drivers called in to find out what was going on, they were told the company had shut down and were told where to drop off their trucks and loads. I don’t know how the drivers got home.

Does Hershey or anyone still make sugar based products in the US? I had thought we were at a terrible raw material disadvantage from the inflated cost of sugar here stateside? ? From Cuban embargo maybe? I thought most candy consumed in the US was made in Canada or Mexico due to that.

Maybe this is the company that was hauling the boxes of ballots state to state, that the trailer disappeared.
