A Colorado state trooper was shot and wounded in a senseless, “targeted” attack while parked on the side of a highway Saturday and still managed to kill the suspect in a shootout, authorities said.
Cpl. Tye Simcox encountered “evil” when the gunman randomly began firing on the 16-year state law enforcement vet as he slowly drove by the officer’s patrol car parked in the median of Highway 36 in the Denver suburb of Westminster.
The gunman continued his brazen shooting with a semi-automatic handgun after he pulled his Chevrolet pickup truck over to the left side of the highway and got out of his car, chief of the state patrol, Matthew Packard, said during a press conference.
“Our trooper exited his patrol car and immediately began to return fire … and was able to strike and ultimately kill the suspect that was attacking him,” Packard said, noting Simcox used his rifle during the shootout.

The officer was able to get his rifle and exit his car. Wow, that must have been tough to do. Glad he dispatched the perp.
Maybe the writer meant “shotgun” and not “rifle”?
I sure hope the guy didn’t suffer to much before he died.

Our daughter used to live in Westminster. It’s a very nice town.
Good thing the trooper was able to act divisively.

Yet the "face of evil" remains inappropriately unidentified.
Could have been.
But in my experience, they usually keep the AR in the trunk. Modern patrol cars are limited in space in the front to accommodate the shotgun, radio, switches for the lights and sirens, and the laptop.
Why?
When you, the police, or anyone, engages a potential deadly force threat one needs the most fire power as possible. I have started carrying a rifle in my pick up truck. The purpose of a hand gun is to fight your way to your rifle. Things are getting very serious in this country.
Once upon a time in America there were Norman Rockwell towns. lots of them. Does anybody remember them?

I was just pointing out that most patrol cars carry shotguns, not rifles. Maybe it’s different in Westminster. I was also pointing out how journalists don’t know a rifle from a shotgun.
This gives time for officials to dig into the attacker's phone and social media for any associated groups or names, and to check for any criminal records and if some judge recently let the attacker out of jail without a bond in some earlier charge and if the attacker was one of the illegal aliens that Traitorjoe and Commie-la let into the U.S.
I don’t think we are that far gone yet. There are still many nice such towns that haven’t gone crazy.
