Message from Governor Charlie Crist Dear Friends, During the 2008 legislative session, my administration worked with legislators of both parties to secure unanimous approval of the Cover Florida Health Care Access Program. This legislation makes affordable health coverage available to 3.8 million uninsured Floridians through a comprehensive market-based strategy. Cover Florida allows insurers to create innovative health insurance products that are affordable and guaranteed to Floridians who have been without insurance for at least six months, or who are recently unemployed – even if there are pre-existing health conditions. The coverage is voluntary for both individuals and for employers, and...

Barney Frank talked about limiting executive pay across the board not just limiting it to bailout companies. Barney Frank tried to misrepresent the questions and was totally evasive on being direct. Frank may be on the finance committe but there is no question he does not understand real world ecconomices. It is further clear Barney Frank is disconnected from any kind of outside the betway reality. The time index to watch is after 5 minutes 35 seconds. At that point is where he hissy fits and ends the interview.

WASHINGTON -- Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will soon announce that gay American diplomats will be given benefits similar to those that their heterosexual counterparts enjoy, U.S. officials said Saturday. In a notice to be sent soon to State Department employees, Clinton says regulations that denied same-sex couples and their families the same rights and privileges that straight diplomats enjoyed are "unfair and must end," as they harm U.S. diplomacy. "Providing training, medical care and other benefits to domestic partners promote the cohesiveness, safety and effectiveness of our posts abroad," she says in the message, a copy of which...

When it comes to the inner workings of its parks, the Disney empire can be as secretive as the Kremlin. But one thing the company is admitting is that it's firing lots of people at its theme parks. It's not discussing the exact number of dismissals except to say it's restructuring and aiming for efficiency, but by adding up reports, we can approach an understanding of the severity of the situation. Earlier this winter, voluntary buyouts were offered to 619 executives, and 50 took the offer. One unattributed person told the Orlando Sentinel that the cuts numbered around 450, while...

http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232?video=1078640272&play=1Rick Santelli this morning on CNBC takes on Ariana Huffinton. The intelectual vacuum of Ariana was on full display as she was totally exposed as a mental midget before the common sense real world observations and questions of Santelli. It was not a rebel yell, it was a surgical crushing. Santelli was asking the right questions and hitting the right points and Ariana was clueless in trying to push the usual left wing empty memes. Huffinton was 100% mentally unarmed. I have seen this with all her appearances. She is never prepared to hold her own in a contest of...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWsx1X8PV_A In his book "Capitalism and Freedom" (1962) Milton Friedman (1912-2006) advocated minimizing the role of government in a free market as a means of creating political and social freedom. An excerpt from an interview with Phil Donahue in 1979.

Walt Disney World is playing cat and mouse games at Disney's BoardWalk. Iron Chef Cat Cora is teaming with Mickey to develop a Greek Mediterranean restaurant called Kouzzina by Cat Cora. The restaurant will be owned and operated by Disney. The new eatery will replace Spoodles, which was also Mediterranean and had delicious food but never seemed to be able to earn a reputation among Disney diners. As of now, there is no set closing date for Spoodles, but the new restaurant is scheduled to open in Fall 2009. Hmmm, I smell an Epcot International Food & Wine Festival tie-in!...

UPDATED to include Dane Patterson's apology. A followup to my Thursday story about the fabricated account of "Biggest Loser" eliminee Dane Patterson running a marathon, when in fact he only ran 23 miles: The producers of "The Biggest Loser" are taking full responsibility for the misrepresentation. Here's the apology put out late Thursday night by Reveille, the company behind "TBL": "As the Executive Producers of 'The Biggest Loser' we would like to make an official apology and set the record straight with regards to the claim in last night's episode that Dane completed a marathon in Arizona. "After seeing on...

Anthem is a dystopic science fiction story taking place at some unspecified future date. Mankind has entered another dark age as a result of what Rand saw as the weaknesses of socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned (when it is allowed to occur, if at all) and the concept of individuality has been eliminated (for example, the word “I” has disappeared from the language). As is common in her work, Rand draws a clear distinction between the “socialist/communal” values of equality and brotherhood and the “productive/capitalist” values of achievement and individuality. The story also parallels Stalinist...

Harley-Davidson Visionary Vaughn Beals Was One Of 13 Harley-Davidson Execs Who Rolled The Dice On Buying The Company From AMF—And Built H-D Into A Brand Known Around The World. It may be a textbook case of turning around a company that’s routinely taught in business schools these days, but when Vaughn Beals and 12 other Harley execs bought the then-troubled manufacturer from AMF with hopes of a turnaround, it was anything but a sure thing. On the risk involved in buying Harley- Davidson in a leveraged buyout: You know that if you bet your net worth at an age when...
