Walt Disney World is playing cat and mouse games at Disney's BoardWalk. Iron Chef Cat Cora is teaming with Mickey to develop a Greek Mediterranean restaurant called Kouzzina by Cat Cora. The restaurant will be owned and operated by Disney.

The new eatery will replace Spoodles, which was also Mediterranean and had delicious food but never seemed to be able to earn a reputation among Disney diners. As of now, there is no set closing date for Spoodles, but the new restaurant is scheduled to open in Fall 2009. Hmmm, I smell an Epcot International Food & Wine Festival tie-in!

Here's the press release from the World:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (March 17, 2009) -- Chef Cat Cora and Disney are joining together to open an exciting new family dining restaurant at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. Kouzzina by Cat Cora will feature a menu of Mediterranean-style cuisine that pays tribute to the chef’s Greek roots.

The restaurant, to be owned and operated by Disney, is scheduled to open by fall 2009 in the space currently occupied by Spoodles.

“I am pleased to welcome Cat Cora and her engaging new concept for Kouzzina to the Walt Disney World Resort,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “This collaboration between Cat and Disney represents a significant step in our ongoing commitment to offer unique culinary experiences and choices for our guests.”

As a Mississippi native born to a family of Greek restaurateurs, Cora grew up immersed in two different and flavorful cultures , and has taken from that unique background the kitchen “know-how” handed down through generations. The cuisine at Kouzzina (Greek for “kitchen” and pronounced “koo-zee-nah”) will showcase Mediterranean cuisine and Chef Cora’s philosophy to create simple yet sensational meals.

Cora said that the new restaurant will feature “time-honored recipes passed down from my ancestors, as well as my favorite Greek and Mediterranean dishes that my family loves.”

She began working with Disney in 2008 by creating a Disney Video on Demand series to showcase ways to help families develop more healthy eating habits. “I’m extremely excited about this latest extension of my relationship with Disney,” she said. “Together, we’re going to develop a truly amazing contemporary Mediterranean restaurant.”

The first and only female Iron Chef on Food Network's hit show “Iron Chef America,” Cora is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. She also is Executive Chef for Bon Appétit magazine. In addition to hosting the instructional cooking demonstrations for Disney Video on Demand, Cora has been a featured chef at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and at Disney’s California Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland Resort.

for those who do not know, this is the Cat Cora who is a homosexual with a "life partner" pregnant with cora's fetilized egg and cora is pregnant with her life partner's fertilized egg.

Disney's Boardwalk is supposed to be a nice clean place to bring a family to enjoy food and relax.

With the ecconomic downturn, whatever suit thought of this was REAAAAALY stupid in the marketing department.

until the announcement of her wacko pregnancy I never thought of her as a homoactivist, hell, i didn’t even know she was a lesbian. I saw her show and that’s about it. I always stay at the Swan & Dolphin myself (got married at the Swan just a few months ago) and as many times as I walked past Spoodles on my way to Epcot I never once had the urge to eat there because it’s mediterranean. Will I eat at the new place? Nope. Is it because of Cat Cora’s involvement? Nada. I hate chick peas and feta cheese and lamb which is about all that mediterranean food seems to be.

well regardless it is going to be the “gay restaurant” at disney.

Idiotic.

Her “greek cooking” is hardly authentic. As you say, it is rather fundamental. She is all marketing rather than substance.

I predict a whole slew of people calling their restaurants “kitchen” (you can’t copyright the word so fundamental)

ANY greek restaurant can be called Kouzina.

She has been positioning herself as a homsexual role model. That has no place in any normal family environment. Disney was MEGA stupid with this marketing mistake.

Disneys ventures into the Leftistphere are the reason my wife and myself have not attended a Disney Park in over 30 years.

We haven’t any intent to ever attend a Disney Park, or any Disney entity.

I never heard of this person. It seems like Spoodles did not do enough business. Is this a business decision or is it really a Homoactivist move? According to the article you can’t tell. It does not even mention that the owner is homosexual. Since the person is not popular at all could it be that nobody will know the owner is gay?

She was mentioned in another thread.

She has come out and they homosexual activists are using her and her sex partner to fight proposition 8 and to push the myth that two homosexuals are “normal”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2203542/posts

The article mentions the homosexual relatinship.

This will really add new meaning to “down by the DISNEY Boardwalk” (old song reference about cruising)

LOL! I’m too tired! When I first read the title, I thought the article was about Spoodles the Dog, and Cora the Cat, and that this was a Kitty Ping!

It’s all starting to run together, folks!

An Iron Chef by definition begins with name recognition for fine food. You think that hurts business ? I suspect the only people who would give a damn stay away from Disney anyhow, afraid Goofy might wink at them.

What possible difference do you think it makes to the food if the chef is straight or gay ? Besides, I presume she won’t even be doing the cooking other then for photo ops. Like Colonel Sanders.

I once went to a gay McDonald’s. Fabulous decor, but skip the special sauce.

The marketing is one of personality.

There is no way in h*ll any respectable “Yia yia” (greek for grandmother) would allow such behavior near her “kouzina” (greek for kitchen)

It is doubly ironic with the homosexual chef opening a restaurant along a boardwalk (ala the old boardwalk cruising stories)

The food is a pedestrian style at best. They would have been far better duplicating a proper greek taverna instead of participating in this woman’s effort to normalize her sexual fetish.

(seriously does anybody believe the fiction of switching eggs with her sex partner? it is just another pr stunt)

BTW: fathers would seem very UNwelcome at that location given how she has intentionally denied fathers to her children.
