  • WWII Memorabilia

My wife's father's WWII foot locker was stored in her mother's basement. We've finally opened it and examined the contents. I'm wondering if anyone here could tell us what some of these items are. Her father was apparently in the Signal Corps (E5 or 6) in France late in the war and there are small booklets on how to behave in France and a few related to Zurich. What I have been able to gather is that his unit couriered officers and information around in small planes. The most fascinating item to me is a Signal Corps message book ---...

A (very) last minute reminder of the 'Freeper Special' page at http://www.jamesmacomber.com/FRSpec.html. With the third John Cann thriller coming out early next year, we set aside a supply, for Freepers only, of the first two novels, "Bargained for Exchange" and "Art & Part" at $10.00 per copy. These are new harcover editions, signed if you wish and dedicated. Won't be there in time for Christmas at this point but they still can make great gifts - and a point.
  • Glen Beck interviews Allah

Did anyone hear Glen Beck this morning when he ‘interviewed Allah’? I certainly can’t do it justice but maybe someone knows where it’s archived or taped or something but one part (really paraphrased) that was great was when he asked Allah: Beck: So what’s up with this 72 virgins thing? Allah: (Nasty laugh). Oh, that’s a rumor I started. Beck: So it’s not true? Allah: Right. Like I’d make 72 perfectly nice girls spend eternity servicing some schlub who goes around killing innocent people. Beck: So why’d you start the rumor? Allah: That way when somebody comes to heaven and...
  • 911 Families for America

An Open Letter to America Three years ago, on the day that began as a beautiful September morning, 19 men and their sponsors carried out a brutal and devastating attack on our country, leaving 3,000 innocent men, women and children dead, including our loved ones. In those first agonizing hours, and for weeks and months afterward as we searched for word of their fate, we were aware that the shock and horror of that day was not ours alone. With a gratitude we could not yet express, we felt the strong and steady embrace of our fellow Americans. The words,...
  • Why does Iran want to provoke a response from the US?

    09/06/2004 10:58:13 AM PDT · by jim macomber · 58 replies · 1,230+ views
This is a question to the collective analysis of the group. I just watched an interview on Fox with the head of an interntational strategic analysis company (didn't get the name but it was something like that). At one point, he strongly made the point that not only was/is Al Queda involved in the Beslan massacre but so was Iran. And not only that (according to the interviewee) Iran is making it clear that they were involved in the "hope of provoking a response from the US?" The interviewer (as they do) went right past that to her next predetermined...

I am told these are the 10 winners of last year's Bulwer-Lytton contest (run by the English Dept of San Jose State University), wherein one writes only the first line of a bad novel. ----------------------- 10) "As a scientist, Throckmorton knew that if he were ever to break wind in the echo chamber he would never hear the end of it." 9) "Just beyond the Narrows the river widens." 8) "With a curvaceous figure that Venus would have envied, a tanned, unblemished oval face framed with lustrous thick brown hair, deep azure-blue eyes fringed with long black lashes, perfect teeth...
  • SwiftVets paid to lie?

Just watched an interview on Fox with Kirin Chetry (sp?) interviewing a dem and a rep. The dem's position was simplicity itself. The Bush ads are lies. Period. So are the SwiftVets. And it goes unchallenged. This guy flat out stated that, not only are the SwiftVet ads bald-faced lies, these guys were paid to do it. 'Lash for cash' was the phrase he used in one of those mnemonic rhymes they are so fond of. And it went unchallenged. Oh, one time Chetry said '...but aren't the MoveOn ads doing the same thing?' and the guy said, "Well Kirin,...

Sometimes you come across a piece of writing that is so much on point, so precise, so attuned to a situation - so just plain well done, that you have to share it. No, sadly, I'm not referring to something I wrote. This is from David Lindsey ("Mercy", The Color of Night", "Body of Truth", etc.) in "The Face of the Assassin". (C) 2004 by Davisd Lindsey. “The intelligence...was scary, like the rumors of a beast lumbering through the night in your direction. If you don’t act on the rumor and it turns out to be a reality, then you’re...
  • Review of Jeff Head's "Dragons Fury" Vols I & II

Halfway through Jeff Head’s four volume (soon to be five volume) series, “Dragon’s Fury”, it’s difficult to decide whether to be more awed by the scope or by the execution of this 21st century Iliad. In “Dragon’s Fury”, Head has crafted an epic – there’s no other word - with a global range and has done it without allowing the story to lose its humanity and focus on individuals wrapped up in and affected by events. And, oh mama, are there ever events. Iran parlaying a nuclear capacity into reality, Middle Eastern states coming together into a unified intranational entity,...

A guy walks into the local welfare office, marches straight up to the counter and says, "Hi... You know, I just HATE drawing welfare. I'd really rather have a job." The social worker behind the counter says, "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur/bodyguard for his nymphomaniac daughter. You'll have to drive around in his Mercedes, but he'll supply all of your clothes. Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll be expected to escort her on her overseas holiday trips. You'll have a two-bedroom...

"In a moment largely unnoticed by the throngs of people in Lebanon waiting for autographs from the president of the United States, George W. Bush stopped to hold a teenager's head close to his heart. He changed from being the leader of the free world to being a father, a husband and a man," Faulkner said. "He looked right at her and said, 'How are you doing?' He reached out with his hand and pulled her into his chest."

The White House has rejected a U.S. military proposal for increased freedom of action along the Iraqi-Syrian border to halt the flow of Muslim fighters into Iraq, reports Geostrategy-Direct, the global intelligence news service. U.S. officials said the White House rejected a plan suggested by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to permit U.S. forces operating along the Iraqi-Syrian border to pursue al-Qaida-aligned fighters into Syria and attack insurgency way stations inside Syrian territory.

So Jane Fonda is coming to the defense of John Kerry, hmmm? Some other testimonials we might see? “Pete Rose is the cleanest, most honest player in baseball.” Ty Cobb “I was more than willing to testify as a character witness for John Wayne Gacy and Jeffrey Dahmer but I had other commitments at the time.” Jack the Ripper “We were ready to give up the fight but the liberal U.S. Media and groups like John Kerry’s Vietnam Veterans Against the war gave us renewed hope and the will to fight on.” General Giap (Commander of N.
