The White House has rejected a U.S. military proposal for increased freedom of action along the Iraqi-Syrian border to halt the flow of Muslim fighters into Iraq, reports Geostrategy-Direct, the global intelligence news service.
U.S. officials said the White House rejected a plan suggested by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to permit U.S. forces operating along the Iraqi-Syrian border to pursue al-Qaida-aligned fighters into Syria and attack insurgency way stations inside Syrian territory.

I support the president, I support the action in Iraq, I support the war on terrorism, etc., etc., etc., .......but does anyone else get a flash of deja vu on this one?

A few thousand troops at the main entry points will slow them down tremendously.

Possibly, however;
we don't have all of details of the projected plan,
we don't know what else is on the table,
we do know that we are dealing with a president much different then JFK, LBJ, and Nixon.

Absolutely agreed as to all of the above.
And, of course there are reasons - geopolitical, strategic, tactical, logistic and probably a host others not to, as the article says, open a second front.
That said, still can't help but notice it's eerie reminiscence, and not just to Vietnam, a lesson one would hope we've learned. But remember that recent thread about not firing back across the border with Mexico at people firing AK's at us?

Okay, sorry I can't use the Major right now, but she's out of commission until I get a donation into Photobucket.
However, please be advised that this article is, more than likely, complete crap. We have been going over the Syrian border for months now. The last people to have a direct line into the JCS is some outfit called "Geostrategy Direct".
