About three weeks ago, my husband received a call from a woman verifying applications for food stamps in Palm Beach County, Florida. The lady on the phone, my husband and I quickly learned that someone in PBC had used my husband's ssn on an application requesting food stamps. My husband informed the lady that we have not lived in south FL since 2004, and that we've since been residing in Texas. She and my husband each thanked the other for the information, and she recommended we contact the Jupiter police department to file a report. Over the next few weeks,...

In a nutshell: Back in May, a friend of my daughter agreed to dog-sit our 1.5 year old sweet dog while we traveled to NJ to visit my father (who has metastatic cancer and heart ailments/surgical defibrillator). For weeks prior to our trip, we were reassured this family would not be traveling over the 4th of July holiday, and that the dog-sitting was still on. Our trip was to commence on or around the 24th of June; we fly standby non-revenue. In the 48 or so hours prior, we were informed that due to a conflict in their schedule, the...

Where she's at is here...she is wanting to do a giant poster of a word cloud using words similar to this: She has to come up with a slogan, and place it somewhere on her poster. She then needs to tie her slogan into her speech. She and I...

Dear XXXXX-- With Congress's August recess now under way, Republican members of Congress are starting to show up at Tea Party events and campaign rallies all over the country. We saw last year during the fight for health reform that this is a time when the extremists run rampant. Remember "death panels?" This year, Republicans are looking to have it both ways, trying to appeal to independent voters while making promises to the Tea Party crowd to pursue an extreme right-wing agenda if they regain control of Congress. Who knows what's being said when the cameras aren't running? We don't...

Sixty-five years ago, William Onufry threw his rifle into the sea and marched 65 miles to the tip of the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines. After four months of fighting a relentless Japanese attack, Onufry and the remaining 12,000 American troops on the island were ordered to surrender on April 9, 1942. Hunger had weakened the men, and many were sick with dysentery or malaria. But the Japanese ordered them to march. Those who stepped out of line to find food or water were beaten. Stragglers were shot. The Bataan Death March claimed the lives of at least 600 Americans...

Separated by more than 7,000 miles, two different generations and two very different wars, a California Army National Guardsman in Baghdad wants to help bring Ben Waldron's World War II journal back home. The journal, rough-hewn and gray, was stolen Jan. 26, along with jewelry and cash from the Waldron home in Orangevale. In Baghdad, Lt. Col. Robert Spano, part of an engineering brigade from Sacramento, learned of the theft from a Bee story online. He felt an instant kinship -- he, too, is keeping a wartime journal -- and a duty to help. Spano is offering a $1,000 reward...
