The House unanimously passed a bill on Friday enhancing former President Donald Trump’s Secret Service protection level after two assassination attempts against the Republican nominee 64 days apart.
By a 405-0 vote, lawmakers directed the Secret Service to apply uniform standards of protection “for determining the number of agents required to protect Presidents, Vice Presidents, and major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.”
The bill was voted under suspension of the House rules, meaning it needed two-thirds approval to pass.
The legislation also requires the Secret Service to issue a report on the effectiveness of its protection for presidents, vice presidents, former presidents and major presidential and vice presidential candidates, who are designated to be “major” protectees by the Homeland Security secretary and congressional leaders.
Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Ritchie Torres (D-NY) introduced the bill the day after Trump’s first brush with death, when would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, shot him in the ear at a Pennsylvania campaign rally on July 13.
It was brought up for a vote this week, five days after Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, set up a sniper’s nest off the 6th hole at Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach in Florida.

The Senate will kill it or Biden will veto it................
Should have always been...there is no excuse...
Will it pass the Senate?
Real Secret Service protection not the Woke Fake kind
Get them on the record then and hang the secret service’s failures around their necks.
CC
So now more foxes watching the henhouse
After a 405-0 House vote, it’s hard to see Democrats voting to kill President Trump.
Unless they can find some procedural fig leaf to oppose on technical grounds.
And Democrats offered to give him a state-of-the-art pager in case of emergencies...
Biden will get all the credit by making an immediate executive order identical to the House bill and beating and bypassing the Senate.
Ad infinitum; ad nauseum.
But they ordered more SS protection for President Trump? Stop it. I'm getting misty.
After a 405-0 House vote, it’s hard to see Democrats voting to kill President Trump.
~~~
It will be a PR nightmare for anyone who opposes this.
Biden may be a lame duck and doesn’t need to care about re-election anymore, but he still has to worry about hurting Harris
If they could the Senate majority would remove all USSS protection from Donald Trump and JD Vance.
“The Senate will kill it or Biden will veto it................”
Maybe, but knowing the Republicans, I won’t take effect for another 4 years or so.
If it is really meant for this election (LOL), then the Democrats might just support anyway, as that way, the assassination attempts can more easily be memory-holed.
There didn’t used to be ANY USSS protections for candidates...............
Who will protect Trump from the “Palace Guard”?
Bill or no bill, I don’t trust them. He should have Bongino, Prince and Posobic recruit a private security team and let them oversee it. I am sure they would do it for free out of patriotism - but in any case, they will all wind up getting positions in his administration.
Schumer has promised to pass it.
Exposing FBI man Jeffry Veltri’s extreme hatred for President Donald Trump
<><>was expressed in his deranged Facebook rants
<><>FBI superiors in ordered him to take it down before
<><> he was then named to lead the Miami FBI office
<><>Veltri is now tasked with leading the assassination attempt investigation.
And this-——Veltri created the notorious “Trump Questionnaire” which was designed to weed out Trump supporters from being hired the FBI by labeling them as security threats.
