My 2 boys and I went to an airshow today in Cincinnati and the Lockheed C-141C Starlifter "Hanoi Taxi" was there. This was Starlifter number 66-0177, the first to carry American POWs from Hanoi to freedom in 1973. While walking through it you see the equipment box that the POW's signed as they flew back home: In the corner I happened to notice the signature of Col. George "Bud" Day - Medal of Honor winner and outspoken critic of John Kerry - so I couldn't resist getting a picture: For more about Col. Day: Maximum Resistance

One day after Donald Seither's mobile home was ripped up by Hurricane Charley, the 74-year-old retiree picked up a friend's phone and pleaded for federal aid. Technically, he got it. But mostly, he got ticked off. Seeking the government's help, the Punta Gorda resident — after being put on hold for 2 1/2 hours — got through to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and told his tale: a damaged roof, shattered windows and no electricity. About a week later, a check from the U.S. Treasury came in the mail. Here, Seither figured, was the hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars he...

When Bob Knight took over at Texas Tech in 2001 he found at his recruiting disposal something that just about every college coach gladly uses to lure in top players. He found a fleet of pretty Tech coeds called the Raider Recruiters with the job of greeting prospective players at the airport and showing them around campus, among other things. While the vast majority of these types of tours are harmless exercises, the reason groups such as the Raider Recruiters are so popular everywhere is simple. Sex sells. Even – sadly, especially – in college recruiting. But not with Texas...

The Atlantic 10 Conference is investigating an allegation that a Fordham University team manager may have used a walkie-talkie to relay Xavier's plays during a men's basketball game between the conference rivals. Xavier, which won the game 74-52 Saturday on its home court, made the allegation, said Ray Cella, the Atlantic 10 Conference's assistant commissioner for public relations.<>BR> Xavier sent a videotape of the game by overnight delivery Monday to the Atlantic 10 Conference office in Philadelphia, said Bill Thomas, a Xavier spokesman. ``We're going to talk to people and take a look at the tape, when we get it,...

When Maurice Clarett was suspended last September for accepting thousands of dollars in extra benefits from a caterer from near his hometown and then attempting to conceal those gifts from NCAA investigators, Robert Dellimuti was portrayed by associates and even Ohio State coach Jim Tressel as a well-meaning guy trying to help an underprivileged kid. The tailback talked daily with his benefactor during the 2002 national championship season, sometimes on a cell phone paid for by Dellimuti. But Dellimuti was more than a fan of Maurice Clarett that year. He was a gambler.

Sanctimonious whiners are special. They are the people who hold positions of high authority and use their pulpits to lecture the rest of us about proper behavior. The behavior they expect of us is the sort they’d never be caught engaging in themselves. Another word for them is hypocrite. With that brief introduction, we bring you our Whiner of the Week, NCAA President Myles Brand, who truly outdid himself in responding to an offer by the Gateway Corp. to finance a true national championship game between LSU and USC. Gateway proposed paying the schools a total of $30 million, with...

Please folks, don't start that "We should be happy for people...They are seeing nice gains in their 401k's..yadda yadda" Bottom line, this will HELP BUSH!

I took a look at my IRA today and see it sitting at a three year high. I admit, for a moment, I felt a moment of glee, then I remembered who this is REALLY helping, big corporations, Bush's supporters, and the sheep who think he really did anything to boost the economy.

2 years ago, at the age of 33, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. We thought we caught it early and she underwent a double mastectomy and went through the most radical chemotherapy regimen that you can get in an effort to defeat this thing and never see it again. We have 8 and 6 year old boys and she wanted to be done with it so she could take care of our kids. In mid-October she found a lump in her stomach, and had it biopsied. When the biopsy results returned she and I were in Las Vegas,...

I am looking for information for a co-worker. This is a very interesting story. The father of one of my co-workers passed away 2 weeks ago. (The link I supplied for this post goes to his obituary in my hometown newspaper.) His name was Joseph J. Becker, and he was a Staff Sergeant in Company C, 147th Infantry in WWII. On Guadalcanal, he received a Bronze Star. It was only a couple of years ago that my co-worker even found out about this award, and his father would never tell him what he did to receive it. He would just...

Mayor Bloomberg just announced on live TV that the city would put the addresses of city blackout shelters "up on the website". In a city that has no power. That'll help!

I know, I know, Iam very late with this............. For a summary of the evening, I can't come close to HighWheeler's outstanding report here - so I won't. But I will post these extra pictures for everyone! Sean opens up the show. Sean and Ann field audience questions. Sean graciously poses with my better half for a picture. I think she enjoyed this a bit too much....... Ann signs my copy of her book.....to my 8 and 6 year old sons who always say "Ann Coulter rocks!" when she comes on TV. And the evening wouldn't be complete without a...

It should be interesting to see if Nate Livingstonand his crowd even show up. Any other Freepers going? If so, would anyone like to suggest a meeting place so we can put faces with names? day10

A 13-year-old North Fairmount boy was being questioned by Cincinnati police in connection with the Thursday night shooting death of one teen and the wounding of two others, one of whom was in critical condition. The boy being questioned was a victim of bullying, two of his relatives claimed. The shooting occurred about 6:35 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of MJ's Variety store at Beekman and Dempsey streets in North Fairmount, said Cincinnati Police Capt. Kathleen Howard. A 14-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and two other male juveniles were transported to separate hospitals for treatment of...

My wife and I were listening to whoever was filling in for Rush Limbaugh a couple of days ago and having a few laughs as he discussed the "Raelians" and the cloning controversy. My wife commented that the founder of the cult had probably watched too much Star Trek while "chemically enhanced" - she makes these cracks knowing I am a hopeless Trekkie. Then it hits me that I knew the name "Rael" from somewhere before. Yep - Star Trek! Below is the entry for "Rael" from the Star Trek Encyclopedia, Expanded Edition, published 1999 (I swear, it was for...
